That's the exact thesis proposed in The Dictator's Handbook by Bueno de Mesquita and Smith for making a government good for its constituents. Coalition size is THE most important feature.

Something that gets me giddy is the knowledge that I'll be able to live through the deaths of Trump and Musk - they're two insane, incredibly unhealthy wackos that will either kill themselves with addiction or be killed by a hero with a gun.

I don't think 3 bags of popcorn is enough. Indeed 2020 was crazy, but the first 3 months of 2025 have been even crazier.
And yes Trump and Musk will most definitely both get worse.
But the trajectory for Musk is worse IMO, I commented about a year ago to my wife, that I wouldn't be surprised if Musk ends up committed to a psychiatric hospital. Trump is bad too, not in the same way. But his dementia is getting worse.

That guy's mental health reached rock bottom years ago. He has been digging ever since.
Probably around middle school judging by his attitude and behavior. He hasn’t matured emotionally or intellectually since then.

Can't he just do like normal depressed people and off himself?
I'm team-going completely offline and taking rehab\therapy. I'm not convinced he'd drop his liquidated actives into charity or get involved some other stuff to undo the damage. But I do enjoy the prospects of such future when the most rich person on Earth unintentionally promotes mental health and at least stops his razor-swinging run around every institution.

He's been crazy for a very long time, this is nothing new. The only thing new is the amount of power he has now.
He has always been a mad grifter, our biggest problem and threat is that now he has more power and won't think think to use it.
Props to Americans who create these monsters, they rather have their balls in a vice than regulate anything.
