I've been a Redditor for 13 years. I read the Admin explanation and the Mods reactions and immediately downloaded Lemmy. I'm still gonna lurk just to watch the chaos but fuck that noise with someone else's dick thank you very much.
i did the same thing, i was skulking around the modhelp sub, they are totally complicit with the admins current banning directives. the mods are okay if people are randomly getting banned or comment removed, regardless if they had a ban in the past that was lifted. they just assume all is ban evaders. they are quite lazy people too.
also filters not resetting after peoples ban is lifted, is on reddit. i do give credit some mods did go out of thier way to help out a user that got banned, but the mods approved thier comments, but reddit was still banning them. thier AI banning is too faulty.
🙋🏻♂️ +1 on having received a warning. I’m a simple man. I see Luigi, I upvote.
Day 1 on lemmy so am finding my way around still :)
but theres no filtering of people "mass downvoting you though, which results in a ban/reported"
Maybe if they actually had good moderators to prevent that content getting upvoted in the first place...
Yeah, I just moved over. Its a shame but things are going to get crazy online.
reddit started shilling for trump negatively or positively, thats when things got bad for most of the subs. you cant even say anything without your comment being misconstrued by someone, most likely a conservative.
I first saw this news over on Reddit, immediately searched for an alternative. Got home from work and now here I am
Welcome.
Best advice I can give you is to just give Lemmy some time. It can feel a bit empty at first because there's less content than Reddit but
-
I've been on here 4 months and have already seen a major increase in users.
-
Spend some time seeking out subs and joining. At first I wasn't finding enough new content to keep me occupied during various downtimes during the day, but now I've got more than enough new stuff every day to keep me entertained.
"Shithole website continues circling toilet."
I register on reddit 17 years ago. Before the great migration from digg. I remember /r/programming being the first sub to reach 100k subscribers.
I got banned for saying in the /r/europe sub that russia banning youtube in russia was a good thing because then we in the west would get less russian propaganda. Got banned for a couple days. Left and never looked back.
/r/programming is dead already since around a decade. All the good discussions moved to hackernews and lobsters.
EDIT: never forget that spez admitted to silently edit user comments that criticized him
This is my first comment from Lemmy. Thanks again to whomever suggested it.
Welcome to the party! Can I offer you a cat pic in these trying times?
Mine too! Already having fun time!
Same — I never used Reddit but I found out about Lemmy from a Content Creator I enjoy. Seemed cool, a few privacy policies later and I’m here. The more I read about Reddit the more I’m glad I never used it.
I was super late to the party. Wasn't really a heavy user until right around the API changes.
Mine too! They recommended Lemmy on r/redditsafety.
Fuck Reddit.
Yes, and fuck discord apparently ?
Welcome. I joined from reddit in 2025, and happy to see more come over since Reddit has become a corporate, bot-filled, propaganda arm for many different groups
I appreciate it :)
Welcome. I joined 4 months ago and I've already seen a noticeable increase in users. Join some subs and your feed will start filling out nicely and you'll stop thinking about Reddit.
I'm seeing a lot more porn, which is neat. Dunno if it's normal for a new user or the algorythm dangling a carrot. But I'll take it!
Fuck Trump and Musk. US should get invaded Iraq 2003 style.
it was a bad sign when musk got a subreddit banned because it hurt his feelings, and then other subs got banned for someone reason to, they said it was a mistake, cant be a mistake when it suddenly happened after musk complained, and it was subreddits related to things contrary to conservatives: narccissit help, lgbtq+ subs.
Fuck Reddit
I’m using the voyager app for Lemmy and it’s just like Apollo. It’s amazing.
Voyager FTW!
Warms my heart to see all the ‘new account’ badges in this thread.
Technically, I'm not new, just recently moved instance, but maybe mine delights you anyway? Assuming it's still there, idk how long it lasts.
Feels like how reddit was when I first used it 12 years ago. Bye bye reddit.
Finally made the permanent switch over to Lemmy. I left a link in the Reddit Safety post so anyone else could convert easily.
It’s an absurd overreach to say the least; good riddance to the corpo-bot platform.
Haha aaaaand that’s how I got here
I suspect this will drive a lot of people over here.
Conform, citizen.
