No need to turn it off for good, 5 minutes every hour or two would be a good reminder

Like Drump ... this idiot is more bark than bite ...

'hey folks, I'm gonna kinda sorta maybe defend you ... and even if I don't, I'll tell you that I did a year from now'

Reminder also, that the electric grid is more complicated than this. We in America won't lose power if he flips a switch, instead our municipality will be forced to purchase power from other sources. You won't be inconvenienced, you will just have to pay more.

Save for maybe full-scale nuclear war, the end result of every possible action by this administration and the people responding to them will ALL have the effect of making each of us pay more. This is the plan, this is why they're doing it, they're trying to drain the wealth of the average American so we become like any other developing nation with a massive population living in shanties and a wealthy elite who control everything and have no limitations to what they can do, because all the governing systems and oversight has been stripped. This is the plan, it's not particularly clever, but it works fantastically well, just ask every other nation that's been toppled from within by obnoxious authoritarians. America is not immune.

Our only real hope here is that they move too fast and make people uncomfortable enough that people start rallying sooner than later. The ousting always comes, the worry is that it will be too late to save democracy and all the myriads of systems that have maintained a functional nation for a couple centuries.

I've voted against Doug Ford 3 times now, but saying he's more bark than bite isn't really true. He's already directed the LCBO to pull American booze from shelves and cease new orders.

Did he ever rip up the Starlink contract?

EDIT: He did it!

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago

He dropped it on the floor and bent over to pick it up and ripped open his pants instead

What’s a word that sounds like no, is spelled with the letters n and o and makes is defined in the dictionary as

“a way that shows a negative response”

So to answer your question, he did in fact not rip up that contract. Hopefully today he does rip it up.

Update: Ford has apparently ripped up the starlink contract with F'elon Musk ask his nazi party. Good!!

I think pushing the button requires waaaaay more backbone that Druggie has. Just sayin'.

Not saying he shouldn’t do it, but the US would have the power back very quickly and Trump would spin it to his supporters as an act of aggression. I don’t think most of the people who temporarily get inconvenienced would see it as a wake up call. America is too far gone. I say that as an American from Michigan that lives in Canada.

As someone with limited knowledge of Canadian politics, who is Doug Ford? If he isn't the prime minister, how does he have significant power and influence to go against the US?

Also, if he is that powerful, he can teach us how to!

[-] Revan343@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Doug Ford is the Premier (think Governor, sorta) of Ontario, our most populous province. The power company might be owned by the provincial government, too

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Could a Canadian governor have the power to stop electricity being exported to another country? I imagine that this has to be discussed and enacted on the national level.

[-] Evkob@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

Canadian governor

Premier. Not governor.

In Canada, the electricity sector is under provincial jurisdiction, not federal, so this would not need to be discussed on a national level.

This would mostly punish people who never wanted Trump in power. It's a purely spiteful move, which in all honesty wouldn't hurt Trump. The executive branch would just say not my problem.

[-] skankhunt42@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

What would you suggest we do instead?

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Possibly. Everyone is out for blood, which is a refreshing change from sticking our head in the sand like we have for so long, but being out for blood famously can also go too far.

The people actually in charge are taking a very balanced approach. For now, dollar-for-dollar tariffs are the only thing that's for sure. The long list of other ways to fuck with the US are being held in reserve for a bit later.

We didn't want this either but the biggest difference here is we didn't get a choice.
