But I like being a lurker 😟

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 59 points 5 months ago

Too late, lurkers don't comment!

I still remember this epic comment from @cm0002@lemmy.world. It's funny because cm0002 is like one of the most active posters I see around.

[-] BlastboomStrice@mander.xyz 18 points 5 months ago

Why do I too remember that post and the comment, huh, I might be spending a lot of time here

It's ok to be a lurker. Lurkers, I'm happy you're here with us.

[-] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 24 points 5 months ago

Hey this user isn’t a lurker!! They’re a big fat phony!!!

[-] voodooattack@lemmy.world 79 points 5 months ago
  • Presses reply
  • Types an insightful comment
  • Looks at it. There’s something wrong with it. He just doesn’t know what.
  • Erases it. Starts over.
  • *Still doesn’t feel right *
  • Hits cancel, discards the comment, and goes back to doom scrolling.
[-] asbach@feddit.org 15 points 5 months ago

How often did you contemplate posting this comment?

Frequent lurker here, I just have such a hard time getting my thoughts out into words that’s relevant to a conversation. Add in an irrational amount of aversion to negative feedback (real or perceived) and it just feels better to just keep scrolling.

One day I’ll get better at this, it’s not easy when my socializing experience has been dominated with negativity both online and offline.

[-] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 months ago

The thing is, I feel like many people just add whatever they think and want to say to a conversation no matter how relevant or irrelevant it is to the current situation. In the end, I feel like most people on here are civil enough to not be mean-spirited towards one another unless they're talking to bigots and stuff.

I struggle with this quite often too - especially when it comes to topics that can be quite divide and polarising - but I always feel good once I do step out of my comfort zone and post away. There's usually bound to be at least a couple people with whom your comment resonates with. Give it a try maybe - you'd be surprised how well it can go :)

One quarter of this user's comment history is them explicitly declining to stop lurking lmao

Goddamit squirrel I'm trying, ive got years of lurker conditioning to break.

[-] Snoopey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 5 months ago

Hey I even upvote sometimes!

[-] whelk@lemm.ee 18 points 5 months ago

Sorting by new helps, so you don't feel like you're too late to be heard if you comment. Making posts, now that's extra tough.

[-] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 5 months ago

Much better than screaming into the void of the same stupid jokes and bots on reddit though right?

[-] flamingos@feddit.uk 13 points 5 months ago

Lemmy is far and away the most active I've ever been on social media, then I see a three month old account with 2K comments and suddenly feel like a lurker.

I’m doing my part by flooding Lemmy with opossum and bat pics. Maybe an occasional raccoon if the mood is right.

[-] Evil_Opossum@lemmy.ca 13 points 5 months ago

Guess I'll come out of the shadows on this one

I have been getting more stoned in the past few days, in the hopes to provide more absolutely terrible jokes, however I went too far and binged a bunch of Mr. Rogers videos on YouTube with dabs.

Have you guys seen this man?! Someone this kind actually existed! Like man. Everyone needs to see Mr. Rogers stuff I think, it's like, proper positive and stuff.

Wow, I'll have you know I post a comment maybe once a month. Fine though, I'll be better and make my first post today.

Darn social media asking me to be responsible and contribute back. What do you think you are? Open source software?

[-] Muyal@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

I have nothing to contribute.

Niche communities are still absent, so most of the time Lemmy is just political discussions and Linux memes.

Not interested in any of those

If you upvote and downvote in a genuine way, you’re improving the lemmy experience imo by lurking.
