Write it down as 700TB and it will be more accurate.

[-] f4f4f4f4f4f4f4f4@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

And C: instead of system32, to represent everything that was created using programs that rely on system32.

[-] mmddmm@lemm.ee 1 points 21 hours ago

Nah, if you are deleting everything on your PC, you'd better report it as 700EB or 7HB...

[-] Toes@ani.social 4 points 1 day ago

I don't understand what this is saying :(

I obviously cannot tell you what to do, but I ask that you rethink this decision. Jokes are jokes until they aren't (see sigma male culture). People will unblock the sub for memes until the forum is hijacked by actual propagandists and poisons the well.

I genuinely believe satire (including memes) was one of the worst things to come from humanity. Because most people on this space-rock are dumb-as-rocks, and cannot tell the difference between a joke and an idea. So your spicy meme becomes their thesis paper.

I would actually want to see conservatives (who doesn't currently support trump) come and debate stuff.

I don't agree with them, but I want to see what their perspective is.

Having a conservative community on a non-corporate site would help prevent the most extreme opinions of the right-wing and minimize russian propaganda (because we have manual applications). Give them a space here, allows them to be exposed to opposing views, preventing far-right extremism.

(Obviously, the trumpers are too far gone and we shouldn't platform them. Racism, sexism and stuff like that should Never be allowed)

Maybe a c/DebateConservatives type of thing?

[-] metaldream@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 days ago

After the last couple days, I want nothing to do with these fucking backstabbing traitors.

[-] rockstarmode@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I agree, but most Lemmings seem to be completely intolerant of right of center views. I've never seen any content in that community that's right of center without being downvoted into oblivion.

If Lemmings just don't want other views here, that's fine, it just kind of sucks when all I get is an echo chamber.

[-] f4f4f4f4f4f4f4f4@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's not our fault that the actually reasonable conservatives were already drowned out by the raving lunatic fascist mobs.

gestures broadly at US federal government

[-] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

By how much the overton window shifted in the US, those (non-trumper) conservatives should really be called "centrists"

I mean, according to magats, "liberals" are "far-left" 🤣

[-] Excrubulent@slrpnk.net 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This seems to come from the assumption that right wing views have equal validity and exist on an equal footing, but they just don't.

Right wing autoritarian attitudes are just whatever is propped up by the propaganda of the prevailing hierarchy. They're blasted out of mainstream news outlets everyday. They don't survive on merit, but on funding.

Like honestly, if you want to hear what conservatives have to say, go watch their news, listen to their pundits, join their social media apps, but if you've got half a brain then you shouldn't be surprised that it's just a pile of callow, self-serving bullshit. You will be disappointed. You won't see a reasonable debate of the ideas.

Like this is an open system. Anyone can make an instance. You know why right wing instances just... aren't? Because they can't stop themselves from being bigots, which most people hate, actually, and gets them yeeted, so they don't thrive here. It's not some conspiracy or bias, it's just what happens when assholes aren't shielded by some big daddy corporation. They can't hack it.

[-] socsa@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

Maybe you should consider why that is. After several decades of "right center" politics being like "we promise we're not crypto fascists" ultimately enabling Trump, you are still confused about why people are so hostile to those exact same narratives?"

[-] green@feddit.nl 10 points 2 days ago

"Right of center views" currently means lies, propaganda, and reality denial. I do not consider myself a leftist (though I do agree with leftists on a lot of things) nor a communist, but there is absolutely nothing of value the current right offers.

I do agree Lemmy (and Reddit) are echo chambers. The real solution? Go outside. However, you'll likely find most people are very apathetic (and easily fooled) but not necessarily right leaning.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Show me a right of center viewpoint that isn't hateful or in bad faith and I won't downvote it.

[-] nomugisan@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

"Right of center" means the insufferable liberal types on LW.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 15 points 2 days ago

Fascists feeling unwelcome is exactly how things should be.

[-] metaldream@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Go on X and hang with your treasonous fash friends then.

[-] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 138 points 3 days ago

You're playing with fire, this is how thedonald started. It was all a joke until it wasn't. Then it became a cesspit.

[-] PM_Your_Nudes_Please@lemmy.world 87 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It’s also how flat earthers started. 4chan started satirically memeing about flat earth. Then idiots saw it, missed the satire, and picked it up as a serious thing. At that point, 4chan went “this is funnier than any satire we could make” and stood back to watch the crazies launch rockets into the upper atmosphere.

[-] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 25 points 3 days ago

Flat earthers have been around (heh) for centuries. It's mostly a religious thing in order to rebuke science in order to keep people stupid. There's a passage in the bible that refrences the four corners of the earth that gets refrenced by these people as proof. It's a way to keep people in their cult, because the outsiders are the ones who are tricked into beleiving in round earth ftom scientists.

[-] trashboat@midwest.social 26 points 3 days ago

I’m more of a dinosaur earth guy myself

[-] msage@programming.dev 6 points 2 days ago

As someone who once played with the Earth's actual distancing math, fuck the both of you.

I think that 4chan started a lot of this apocalypse that way.

[-] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

4chan was sold in 2015 and that's when it took a hard right turn.

[-] Kirk@startrek.website 1 points 1 day ago

"Shoop da woop" was a popular 4chan meme dating to at least 2006. Also the whole "newfag", "oldfag" etc thing has been going on since forever.

[-] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Are those supposed to be far right slogans or something? This was normal stuff at the time.

[-] Kirk@startrek.website 1 points 22 hours ago

"Fag" is a homophobic slur and "shoop da woop" is a blackface meme and yes it was all very normal 4chan.

[-] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

My dad used to be on 4Chan all the time in the 2000s, he told me being called a fag was considered a form of endearment, not an insult. I've never heard newfag or oldfag be used by the far right, they typically go for actual insults instead.

[-] Kirk@startrek.website 1 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

"fag" is a homophobic slur that was actually even more hurtful to use back in the early 2000s when LGBT people were a lot less accepted by society than today. That said your Dad is technically correct and it was a "term of endearment" among homophobes on 4chan which was largely comprised of straight white men in college had/has a self-deprecating sense of humor.

[-] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

There was definately a tone shift when the site was bought. People were usually mocked if they were actually right wing over there.

[-] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Damn, sounds like a familiar story now

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

The Flat Earth Society was founded in 1956.

4chan's downfall was mainstream media telling everyone that Nazis were on the site, so all the Nazis who were watching mainstream media went to 4chan and without moot running it, they were allowed to fester.

[-] socsa@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

I first found 4chan around 2005 and there definitely Nazis on it. And pedophiles.

[-] Kirk@startrek.website 2 points 1 day ago

Absolutely idk what that guy is smoking

[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 11 points 2 days ago

This one was already serious. The worst that can happen is it goes back to what it was before.

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 47 points 3 days ago

Yea, but I'm a mod Who's Built Different™️

[-] danhab99@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

That's not how this works.. you just go to a different instance like wtf?

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It was entirely abandoned, and that was just the latest set of mods. From what I understand, the .world version has been through three sets of mods.

Most serious conservatives around here just want to spread hate and misinformation anyways, should have seen what happened to the .ee version mods, removed by the instance admins because they were doing shit like quickly resolving reports so the admins didn't see them to allow crap like Nazi celebratory posts to stay up.

[-] danhab99@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

Huh.. wish I was there. Oh well seems like the fediverse is working, yay

[-] woelkchen@lemmy.world 59 points 3 days ago

!conservative@lemmy.world because there is no clickable link here.

[-] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 26 points 3 days ago

This is peak US politics. No wonder y’all seem to be so fucked…

Having said that, best of luck with the community.

[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

Nice! I unblocked it.

[-] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 29 points 3 days ago
