A meeting at the White House between Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump descended into a bitter argument in front of the press in extraordinary scenes as Trump demanded that Zelenskyy show more gratitude to his administration, while accusing him of 'disrespecting the US'.

Trump also told him that he needs to make a deal with Putin or 'we are out', threatening to cut US support for Kyiv.

Gotta say, that was surprisingly hard to watch.

Zelenskyy was gonna get screamed at no matter what. This is just a matter of controlling the narrative and manufacturing consent to stop military aid.

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 59 points 2 years ago

He did handle it well.

That: "I heard it from Putin" should go down in history.

[-] casmael@lemm.ee 10 points 2 years ago

This is one of those clips I just don’t really want to watch, you know? Like two beheadings one cup sort of thing

Vance is a moron. Did you say thank you? Uh, yeah just today and previously in front of the entire house of representatives Bozo.

[-] Subtracty@lemmy.world 36 points 2 years ago

I didn't think it was possible to find a more irritating person to listen to than Trump. But this idiot proved me wrong. What a sniveling little evil henchman.

[-] coyootje@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago

It's insane that Trump has both manchild JD and mega cringelord Elon on his team. If Elon and Vance ever do an event together the venue will implode from their lack of charisma.

[-] PugJesus@lemmy.world 64 points 2 years ago

Jesus fucking Christ. What a fucking slug Trump is.

[-] Pondis@lemmy.world 50 points 2 years ago

Its all going according to Russias plan. Make Zelensky look like a bad guy to the MAGA freaks who wont argue when the full invasion happens.

Its pretty clear its on Europe to keep the continent safe. The US is out of the conflict.

[-] Lenny@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 years ago

Yeah, my first thought what that they were really giant thin skinned snowflakes, but it’s more likely their plan was to latch onto anything and get heated in an attempt to bait Zelensky into an outburst.

  • Make Zelensky the bad guy
  • Walk away from negations
  • Declare the only way to bring PEACE to Ukraine is to send US troops in to halt the fighting
  • Continue working towards giving it to Putin
[-] grue@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago

The US is out of the conflict.

Maybe, if Europe is lucky. The other very real possibility is that the US has switched sides.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

Zelenskiy should turn around and give that mineral deal to the EU

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 years ago

The US is out of the conflict.

Until they turn to focus on Greenland, Canada, Mexico, and Panama.

[-] PugJesus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Yeah.

Fuck.

[-] wirebeads@lemmy.ca 42 points 2 years ago

Who's the dictator here exactly?

[-] lemmylommy@lemmy.world 37 points 2 years ago

The “we are out” was the point of the whole thing. Trump never negotiated in good faith.

[-] treadful@lemmy.zip 22 points 2 years ago

That video is hard to watch.

[-] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 21 points 2 years ago

HE’S NOT SPEAKING LOUDLY!

I’m still baffled that so many people think this toddler is competent.

[-] Ste41th@lemmy.ml 18 points 2 years ago

I think it’s disgusting that trump and Vance are so blind to the fact that Zelenskyy has done a lot more for his country in a war than trump or Vance would do in 4 years for America.

[-] jamie_oliver@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago

They're not blind, they are fascists trying to normalize invasions and dictatorships.

They are not idiots, they are evil.

[-] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Trump is definitely also an idiot.

[-] jamie_oliver@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I feel like that rethoric does more harm than good. You don't accidentally mobilize and radicalize a large part of the American people. That is calculated behavior. Everyone not taking him seriously are part of the problem.

[-] Ste41th@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

“Idiot” is an understatement

Eyeliner VP boy.

Maybe he’s born with it, maybe it’s maybelline.

[-] crt0o@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

What this fuck is this even. Not a single coherent sentence spoken, I wouldn't say you can even call this a conversation, just unintelligible babbling from both sides.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Zelensky is only not understood because he's being yelled over

[-] ImperialATAT@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens. That fucking oompa-loompa blowhard talks loud but needs to STFU.

[-] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago

I’m just one US citizen but I’d like to apologize to all Ukrainians on behalf of 50% or so of all people here. Our leadership is disgusting.

[-] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago

Do not under any circumstances give into the Orange Turd.

[-] Lenny@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 years ago

I was just looking at another post of this in the same instance and it was deleted. Tf?

[-] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

Might be because it was a twitter link.

As insane as this is, Trump and Vance have not forgotten that Zalensky aligned himself with Kamala Harris before the election. So, they are wanting to see some 'Humble Pie' eaten. Its difficult for Zalensky to nagivate this hard feeling, and addressing it directly might be counter productive. It will probably work out in the end. Edit: its shocking how many downvotes this comment has already. Particularly as its just an overview of that position of things, not a personal opinion!

[-] derpgon@programming.dev 7 points 2 years ago

Trump proposes bad deal for Ukraine, expects Zelensky to sign it and lick their boots tso they can say they've "shown his his place".

It was never about Ukraine, it was a power move that failed because the whole fucking USA president office is a giant bad joke.

[-] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago

Don't fucking run apologetics for the filthy fucking nazi traitor scum. This shit is absolutely unexcusable. Trump needs to be removed and tried for treason immediately.
