I really hate that line of thinking. I get why people make that comment, but I really hate it either way. I know it does happen, but applying that logic to everyone is just wrong.

Unless you have legitimate reason to believe someone has ulterior motives behind their words or actions you need to assume they are being truthful. Innocent until proven guilty n all that.

The only people that feel the need to advertise it's bad, are the ones who secretly are thinking "But I have these urges so other people must too, so I better put it on a shirt to remind everyone it's bad in case they forget".

Calling out your dislike of something when it's presented to you is fine. A pattern of interrupting unrelated conversations to do so is a bit worrisome.

Would they overwhelmingly support waving a crooked "X" around? No. Would they support a tyrannical system maintained through fear and violence where people are separated into in-groups and out-groups (and excuses are always found to put the most vulnerable people into the out-groups) and mass executions of those out-groups are considered acceptable? Unfortunately, all signs point to "yes".
