Guessing it says "kill"? I feel people who are that vocal about pedophiles are usually compensating for their own internal demons. Someone should keep an eye on that man...

[-] Majorllama@lemmy.world 36 points 1 week ago

I really hate that line of thinking. I get why people make that comment, but I really hate it either way. Just because some people who vocally take one stance doesn't mean they are always secretly in support of it behind closed doors. I know it does happen, but applying that logic to everyone is just wrong.

If we expand that type of thinking to others does that mean that Lemmy users are overwhelmingly Nazis because they have been so outspoken against them? They must be hiding their love of Elon and Trump just because they keep talking about how much they hate them all the time. Clearly projecting.

Unless you have legitimate reason to believe someone has ulterior motives behind their words or actions you need to assume they are being truthful. Innocent until proven guilty n all that.

Let me make it easy for you: The local CPS agent who has to both uncover pedophiles, as well as deal with the aftermath, would never be caught dead in a shirt like this.

Anyone wearing a shit like this is projecting HARD. Normal people universally agree that pedophiles are bad. The only people that feel the need to advertise it's bad, are the ones who secretly are thinking "But I have these urges so other people must too, so I better put it on a shirt to remind everyone it's bad in case they forget".

There's litearlly no well adjusted adult who thinks you need to remind everyone that pedophiles are bad... that's just a base assumption. If one of my coworkers showed up tomorrow with a shirt that said "Rapists are bad, don't rape people" my first thought would be: wait, were you contemplating raping people before you saw that shirt for the first time?

Me thinks the lady doth protest too much

Is a truism for a reason.

There’s litearlly no well adjusted adult who thinks you need to remind everyone that pedophiles are bad…

eh, well adjusted is doing a lot of work there. I know victims, plural, who would happily join a lynch mob if it was going out to hang pedos. I think you have a point about projection, but like everything, there's few without-exception universals.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

I know victims, plural, who would happily join a lynch mob if it was going out to hang pedos.

And would any of those people purchase and wear a shirt like this on a regular basis?

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

guess what: if they did, I wouldn't say shit.

you don't know what other people have been through. but you seem really confident in casting the pedo accusation around. reminds me of conservatives.

[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

You're dodging the question.

While we're on the subject of how people "tell me without telling me" This trait you've displayed speaks to low emotional intelligence with the advice being, better to keep your mouth shut than remove all doubt.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

You’re dodging the question.

guess what fuckface:

I'm in no way obligated to engage with your bullshit. Your entitlement to my time is now revoked. Have a horrible life.

[-] nomy@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

I think the takeaway from this conversation can be: Don't wear shirts that talk about murdering anyone if you want to be perceived as normal and well adjusted, they're weird.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

yeah not advocating for that, nor defending the people pictured, but I know victims, and if they wanted to tear some pedo apart I would NOT stand in their way.

[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

Nice. You double down and revealed yourself to be what you just claimed I am. Amazing display.

[-] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Or they are saying stero types are good and allowed now because they is all this is.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 week ago

What if his father raped him every night, his mother dismissed it, and he wasn't able to get his teachers or the community to believe him because dad was "such a community role model"?

That seems like a perfectly sensible reason to want to remind the world that pedophiles are bad. And it happens a lot.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago
[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 week ago

Got child abused, and the memories aren't there, but the content of the nightmares suggests the abuse may have been sexual.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

perfectly sensible reason

The answer is no. People who go through trauma typically don't go around wearing revenge shirts. Policy shirts, maybe, but a "kill school shooters" shirt would be beyond weird.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Okay sorry for having trauma the wrong way

[-] jerkface@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Drag, no one believes you go around with stuff about pedophiles written on your clothing. If you do... well that's another interesting little bit of information.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 week ago

Drag doesn't, it's just... drag understands being full of hate because of your trauma. Drag has empathy for that. What drag doesn't have empathy for is this argument. Drag doesn't understand the emotions going on here.

[-] jerkface@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

When you say, "Sorry for having trauma the wrong way," when you do not even express your trauma in this performative way, you are weaponizing your trauma to win an argument against strangers on the Internet. Sexual trauma is pervasive. You are well advised to assume whomever you're speaking with has the same trauma.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 week ago

Drag does express drag's trauma in this performative way. The transphobia trauma, not the child abuse trauma. Drag isn't a kid anymore, what's done is done. But drag is still trans and still feels the need to remind everyone that Nazis are bad. That's why drag empathises with someone who has the same response to the other trauma.

If you don't have a fight response, that's a you thing, not a universal fact of reactions to trauma. Drag knows what a fight response is like.

[-] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

What if the exaxt opposite of what you said, what if stars were gods tears

[-] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

tempted to make a what if bot that says some random shit, because if were whatiffing anything is possible

[-] nomy@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Then he'd be weird as fuck to weird a shirt around advertising his hatred of pedophilia to the world. At some point he'd be expected to process his trauma so he can have healthy relationships with others. This is really basic emotional work we should all do.

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

I was just watching an Explore With Us video about a guy who was VERY outspoken against paedos.

…he raped kids.

[-] vithigar@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago

While I agree with this, I still think people who repeatedly bring up how opposed they are to something, apropos of nothing, are a bit strange and at best probably need to talk through some stuff.

Calling out your dislike of something when it's presented to you is fine. A pattern of interrupting unrelated conversations to do so is a bit worrisome.

[-] Majorllama@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I can agree with that somewhat. Time, place and how often it comes up would make me mildly suspicious of someone, but I feel like I often see people instantly jump there without any additional information.

[-] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Bingo, if I unprompted went on a rant about my disdain for Calvinism it would be out of place and fucking weird whereas within a conversation of Christian theologies that missed the mark about the overall message a rant about Calvinism would make sense.

[-] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Sounds like you have something to hide.

[-] Majorllama@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I can't tell if you're trying to be funny or if you actually are doing the thing right now lol

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

If we expand that type of thinking to others does that mean that Lemmy users are overwhelmingly Nazis because they have been so outspoken against them?

Would they overwhelmingly support waving a crooked "X" around? No. Would they support a tyrannical system maintained through fear and violence where people are separated into in-groups and out-groups (and excuses are always found to put the most vulnerable people into the out-groups) and mass executions of those out-groups are considered acceptable? Unfortunately, all signs point to "yes".

[-] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

My first thought is "Methinks he doth protest too much."

My second thought, is maybe he's advertising his want to assist in this specific scenario, in which case, can I have his number?
