The only difference between these folks and the Taliban are what type of hat they wear.
I fear fundamentalist Christians the most because you can’t spot them in a crowd by a funny hat and beard like other fundamentalists.
Though, as a beard haver I'm pretty happy I'm not confused with these asshats due to my appearance.
Yea, loads of us saw this coming from almost a decade ago. Wtf can be done now?
The only hope I have is really bleak. And it’s that the Christian fanatics underestimate how little the billionaires actually care and will ultimately decide theocracy is bad for business and the ending of There Will Be Blood happens in real life. We’d still be in a cyberpunk dystopia but at least we wouldn’t be put down for not attending church
The only reason I still think they will inevitably fail (although not without a heavy cost to the public) is because of how many different factions there are. Currently they are united by a common hate of liberalism, but if they manage to defeat it they will inevitably turn on each other.
No matter how I slice this I strongly feel that all roads leads to a civil war and a fracturing of the federation.
As I was watching the future of xtian belief (waning, and fast) and the changing of demographics (not as white), I kind of expected the reactionary elements in this country to act like a cornered animal.
These people hate everything about the American experiment. They hate normal Americans having the freedom to tell their little book club to shove it and to mind their own business. I'm sure the stats that show nearly 1 out of 3 Americans are "nones" (and growing) and that the numbers of xtians keeps falling (ironically, I bet immigration is what keeps it even propped up to the 60-some percent it is at now)
Theocracy, christian fascism and fascism in general are very very very far away from nihilism.
The hegemonic narrative doesn't even try to understand opposing ideologies, just misrepresent them.
The term "reactionary nihilism" is an oxymoron.
The popular definition of nihilism is a bad person who rejects my values. Or a bad person who secretly holds values in opposition to their public persona. "Nihilist" in journalistic circles means "double-atheist", to their readers it just means "wicked".
its going to be frustrating to people familiar with the philosophy, but it was way too cool of a word to stay esoteric and academic. The solution is to find a new word for the philosophy; accept the loss of the word to popular culture. (which is a good and natural process)
“Say what you will about National Socialism, Dude. At least it’s an ethos. “
