Here we are again acknowledging what a turd Elon is and not deleting our accounts. A missing user base talks but repeatedly acknowledging how bad he is while continuing to use the service does nothing.

Well, now, let's be thorough here! Repeatedly acknowledging how bad he is doesn't do nothing!

It's much worse, it drives engagement! It does precisely the only thing any of these social media companies care about.

"a missing userbase talks" is a dope line, FWIW.

[-] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 3 weeks ago

what makes you think we still have accounts? i deleted mine

[-] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Nah don’t delete, hoard the accounts. Especially if you have a coveted username. If X has a lot of users but only a fraction is truly active that would fuck their ad business. Advertisers will quickly realize those numbers are fudged and stop paying the prices X is asking.

That bit largely already happened. Twitter isn't self-funded, it loses lots of money already. It's just a tool ~~cumbadger~~ Elon uses to exert influence. Like Bezos and WP, but better value for money.

Social media addiction is a hell of a drug.

[-] Benjaben@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Afflicting almost everyone. Sad state we're in.

[-] ZDL@ttrpg.network 1 points 3 weeks ago

Who's this "we" person?

I deleted my then-Twitter account before Musk was even in the running to buy now-Xhitter.

(I'd also deleted my Farcebook account long before that even.)

I'm sure Elon is completely unaware of ClownWorld and its existence as a community of Nazi dogwhistlers.

Just one more in a line of 1,488 unrelated occurrences.

Holy shit you’re right, I completely missed/forgot about this clown thing.

Thanks for the warning

Goebbels respawned as a billionaire

[-] DocumentingReality@lemmy.cafe 13 points 3 weeks ago

That was one of the reasons why he bought Twitter - now call X. So, he can do whatever he wants on his platform. Even if it means, tweeting fake news.

I used to be on Twitter. But I gave that gig up. As well, as Facebook. There are plenty of other places on the net to interact and I won't give either a single penny (for my thoughts).

Looting is very cool actually

[-] Catoblepas 43 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Convincing people that looting is happening on any real scale (it’s 99% people escaping evacuation zones or returning to their burnt up homes) is going to get someone fucking shot, just like it did during Katrina.

[-] ech@lemm.ee 32 points 3 weeks ago

Depends on the target. Stores? Probably fine. Sticking to chains instead of local shops would be cooler, though. People's homes? Nah. That's shitty. Taking advantage of people in an emergency is some CEO level mentality.

[-] IndieSpren 17 points 3 weeks ago

what if the home belongs to a uhc executive?

[-] ech@lemm.ee 14 points 3 weeks ago

If you're researching your looting, I'm pretty sure you're doing it wrong.

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

At that point it's just burglary with extra steps

[-] ech@lemm.ee 1 points 3 weeks ago
[-] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

lol thank you

World needs your codswallop bro

[-] ZDL@ttrpg.network 3 points 3 weeks ago

I know techbro. I know cryptobro. What's a coswallopbro?

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

If you're looting TVs, you're making the evacuation worse, but I don't care if you're just grabbing food or supplies. I'd absolutely break some windows if I needed jumper cables for instance.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

A bunch of rich people's houses also burned though

[-] Catoblepas 21 points 3 weeks ago

Altadena--where the images of the "looting" are coming from--is not Pacific Palisades. Living in LA county doesn't mean you're rich, and most people in Altadena weren't.

It's a racially diverse neighborhood that historically wasn't redlined, representing one of the few areas in LA where black families were able to build equity instead of perpetually renting. It's not an accident that these ghouls are showing black people fleeing from their homes with what they can carry and calling it looting, and it's going to get people fucking killed.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yes, american media's major purpose is to be a racist bias confirmation machine. Doesn't change the fact that looting is cool and good.

If you see someone you think is looting, no you didn't.

[-] Catoblepas 5 points 3 weeks ago

You don’t have to accept the racist conservative lie that looting is happening, actually.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

Well, it should be.

[-] ech@lemm.ee 10 points 3 weeks ago

Easy to fall into a "this person looks richer than me" justification with that one. Anything below a super-mansion should just be considered off limits for anyone with a conscience.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

Sounds good to me.

[-] magnetosphere@fedia.io 6 points 3 weeks ago

I want to break all of his fingers each time he uses an emoji. Use your words, like a big boy, Elon.

[-] ZDL@ttrpg.network 6 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe we should restrict ourselves to when the Apartheid Manchild isn't (re)tweeting fake news.

It would be a lot less typing that way.
