His statements — including Holocaust denial, racist denunciations of Muslims and immigrants, and a proposal to round up people with AIDS — shocked his critics and strained his political alliances. Le Pen routinely countered that he was simply a patriot protecting the identity of “eternal France.”

Wow. Very glad he is gone.

I hope he burns in hell next to Thatcher, Reagan, and Kissinger.

Finally the world is rid of this dickwad. If his life-span was any indication, his spawn might haunt France for a long time too.

"known for fiery rhetoric against immigration" ffs.

Y'know who else was known for fiery rhetoric against immigration?

The ap would soft pedal him too.

I reported a comment that an OnlyFans model posted on Reddit that openly wished for his daughter (Marine Le Pen) to get Luigi Mangione'd, mainly to see how they'd enforce their rules when it's not a corporate CEO being threatened.

Apparently Steve Cuckman and his team deemed it didn't break their rules on inciting violence.

Couldn’t Marine join him?

Not that I’d prefer she be replaced by Zemour or Bardella.

Only the good die young.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 15 points 2 days ago

So, did he just side with the Nazis in the 40s or did he wait until after?

[-] freohr@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago

He went back after the war to get a knife from the Hitler Youth, engrave it with his name, then used it to torture Algerians during the algerian independence war.

[-] BastingChemina@slrpnk.net 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

To give more details about this knife,

He used it to torture an Algerian independentist in front of his wife and kids, in their house.

Then Jean Marie le Pen forgot his engraved knife in the house, came back to pick it up the day later but the Algerian son kept the knife hidden. This is how we know about this knife.

He truly was a huge POS and now his daughter is getting closer and closer to be elected.

Could someone accidentally stick a firework up his butt? You know, for the pop! Maybe one of those that goes off when you pull the chord? And then tie the chord to the door? That would be a pretty funny thing to see on the news! C'mon guys! At least some other funny thing?

[-] keesrif@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Regardless of their opinions, I don't think a person's death should be considered uplifting news

[-] beefbot 3 points 1 day ago

Rush Limbaugh used to ring a bell on his show whenever a gay person died of AIDS. Were you around browbeating that turdnugget much? Get off your high horse & let people have joy

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

"we shouldn't have expressed joy when hitler died"

[-] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

I disagree.

[-] cupcakezealot 20 points 2 days ago

its fine nazis arent people

[-] daddy32@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

Opinions maybe, but actions? Having a negative influence on whole countries?

[-] keesrif@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

It might be a positive to a lot of people, but I don't think it belongs in uplifting news. It's a place (at least for me) to get away from all the news about death and terror across the globe

[-] beefbot 1 points 1 day ago

If you hate puppies then Uplifting News probably won’t be uplifting to you. Not everything is the same to everyone. Maybe let other people exist without commanding that rules be so black and white

[-] flambonkscious@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

I'm glad we've still got people like you around to remind me I'm starting to 'drift' from my principles.

[-] RandomVideos@programming.dev 3 points 2 days ago

They died at 96

Could have they done anything more than they already had?
