I don't think the press cares about the CEO as much as they like the revenue the story generates for them. It's always about money. Same reason we see so many stories about Trump and his cronies.

A story about a child being murdered by a white supremacist could also generate revenue. It’s not just that.

They have a CEO too - this is just class solidarity.

It is not advertiser friendly.

There’s no spin that makes people want to buy. Healthcare logos are hearts.

I must admit this is my first time hearing about this, damn. I feel way worse for the kid.

It's a pretty low bar to clear, I don't think most people feel bad at all for the CEO.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 years ago

Even mostly evil people clear the bar.

Where are the street cam videos and stills of the perpetrators? Where is the reward for info? Oh yeah, if you're not a CEO it's not worth anyone's time I guess.

How typical. I'm disgusted that this doesn't surprise me.

The incident took place in Lower Manhattan near the PACE University and likely close to the hotels the two victims were living in. Hopefully something gets distributed soon, so far NYPD has only released the remaining boy's statements about what happened before the attack.

Not sure where the dining hall entrance is but that's the side of the building it would have taken place at, apparently a PACE student saw the aftermath and called for help.

There are some stores nearby. Perpetrators came and then left on foot, I have no idea which direction but the information might be available somewhere.

Thank you for going out of your way to provide this info! Those two boys deserve justice.

I don't live in NY, but I know folks in New England who'd keep their eyes open for wanted, violent white supremacists to report.

"The three suspects fled the stabbing on foot. They are described as being in their 20s with dark complexions."

Still a hate crime, but doesn't sound like white supremacists to me. Twitter screenshot took some liberties.

I love how no one really seems to care about giving the CEO a name

[-] josie@vegantheoryclub.org 26 points 2 years ago

He doesn't deserve to be remembered. Fuck him

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 years ago

Sure I'll give him a name

NYT has been faking being a liberal rag though the late 20th century, but since the Trump era (2015 forward) it's gone more and more mask-off.

While I'm here, ~~a~~ look up the Behind the Bastards two-parter on How The Liberal Media Helped Fascism Win which compares the German (often Jewish-owned) newspapers in the 1930s to US news agencies in the 21st century. Spoiler: The owners and editors of the news identify way more with ownership class than working-class Jews (or in the US, anyone who is marginalized who isn't rich).

[-] OmnipotentEntity@beehaw.org 2 points 2 years ago

NYT has been around since before the civil war.

I'll let you have a guess what their stance on slavery was. They always have punched left.

NYT on slavery“Emancipation, whenever it comes, must be the work of the Slave States themselves. They must adopt it from a conviction of its necessity to their own well-being.”

[-] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago

It's not like the story hasn't been covered at all, The Independent and ABC News have both published the incident, it's showing up in Yahoo and other News Feeds, and the NYPD are searching for the three suspects. The story probably just isn't selling as well as the gunman, unless OOP has actual proof that the story crossed NYT suit's desk and got rejected because of the victim's status?

If they did give it more time people might complain it was distracting us from the message the gunman wanted to send.

[-] Pips@lemmy.sdf.org 20 points 2 years ago

It's also, no matter how sad and fucked up, a local story whereas the killing of a CEO who has fucked over people across the country is a national story.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

If that teenager was a CEOs son I bet there'd be lots of coverage. Guaranteed.
