Misskey is fascinating and in my opinion more compelling than Mastodon. It's also strange to see them write "somehow" as I'd think with their instance and username they would be aware that Misskey is developed in Japan, by a Japanese developer.

Misskey federates with Mastodon tho???

[-] Joker@sh.itjust.works 14 points 8 months ago

It does.

But it's so surprising to me that Mastodon is not in the second place.

From what I remember, Misskey fills the niche that Mastodon does and it's been popular in Japan for a lot longer than mastodon was popular elsewhere

Also I'd be curious what the breakdown of Japanese users is across the three. Overall user counts are one thing, but maybe the number of Japanese users matches that order (Misskey > Bluesky > Mastodon)

Most users are still on Twitter.

The people that have moved to Misskey are mostly erotic artists cause Misskey has less "international interference" (read:lolicon rules)

I assume at some point most mastodon instances will block Misskey for the same reason they blocked the pixiv mastodon instance(pawoo).

I guess OP wasn't aware. Or it just wouldn't fit the meme. ¯\(ツ)

Idk seems like a pretty obvious thing as misskey is japanese. Also misskey is federated with mastodon so it doesnt matter that much.

In what practical ways is Misskey different from Mastodon?

Over on Misskey, their emoji skills are off the charts.

Mastadon is unique in this field insofar as it's the only one whose name sounds like it was chosen by a toddler
