I'm not saying that it's likely or that it would have any effects.

He should be sentenced if he is a sitting president. Eric Adams didn't get a free pass for being in office and neither should the president because the president isn't a fucking king.

He won't be due to how shit our system is, or he would have been sentenced months ago like a normal person.

[-] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 89 points 5 months ago

You better watch your mouth or he'll send Seal Team 6 to delete your ass. It'll be an official act so it won't be illegal for him to do so.

He can be, but they won’t.

[-] Vent@lemm.ee 129 points 5 months ago

It is a universal axiom that any question starting with "Will Trump ever face consequences for..." can be answered with "no".

If, instead of prison, Trump was faced with a free luxury mansion on a private island and a $1B/yr pension to live out the rest of his years Epstein style, Kamala may have had a chance. As soon as the alternative included a hint of repercussions for his actions, the universe simply could not allow it.

[-] db2@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

Doesn't matter anyway, the spineless bitch conceded faster than John Kerry did.

[-] pinkystew@reddthat.com 51 points 5 months ago

Did you not listen to her concession speech?

[-] db2@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

It's a concession. I don't give a fuck what she has to say about it.

[-] pinkystew@reddthat.com 86 points 5 months ago

"A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results. That principle, as much as any other, distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny. And anyone who seeks the public trust must honor it."

Please watch her speech.

[-] db2@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

No. Fuck her. We put all our hope in to her and she utterly failed us all, even the cultists whether they're smart enough to know it or not. At this point I wouldn't piss on her if she were on fire.

I was upset when Kerry conceded, this is a whole other level. People are going to die that wouldn't have otherwise and her cowardice at calling out the bullshit tactics the extremists said flat out they'd use to secure power places that at her feet. She didn't even fucking try. Basis were burned, found in a fucking sewer. That isn't democracy.

If you can't see that you need to pay more attention.

[-] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

I didn't put any hopes in her. She turned out exactly as I projected.

Flowery words coming from someone who now lives in a tyrannic monarchy.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

No, just a monarchy. As much as it pains me to say it, it's actually not "tyrannic" because the electorate legitimately voted for it.

I almost wish Trump had actually lost and then stolen power. At least that would've made some sort of sense!

[-] EldritchFeminity 13 points 5 months ago

Not "tyrannic" yet, but Project 2025 is 3 months away.

[-] Psythik@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Preach. Fuck Kamela. She's just as responsible for the death of democracy as everyone who voted Trump, voted 3rd Party, or didn't vote at all. She's willing to just throw in the towel and let the country (and millions of Americans living in it) die. So fuck her.

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

What do you want her to do?

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 29 points 5 months ago

I really don't like her but what the fuck did you want exactly? A coup?

Please, she's not that cool.

[-] db2@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

I want elections where the far right doesn't get to say "we won" after detailing dozens of illegal things they'd do to secure the election while everyone else who is supposed to be in charge is just like "oh OK". It's not an unreasonable ask.

[-] Twoafros@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Just came to say you're a coward and an idiot. If you want change, run for elections or lead a direct action movement instead of insulting people actually trying. What bad logic are using to insult the person who ran and lost instead of the person who won and who is threatening to make everyone's lives worse? again coward and an idiot

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 77 points 5 months ago

Have you met the Supreme Court? No he's not going to be in jail.

[-] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 months ago

Trump is above the law. Lol.

[-] toomanypancakes@lemmy.world 55 points 5 months ago

Oh no, of course he can't. There's decorum and precedent to consider! Best to give him free reign to do whatever the fuck he wants without fear of consequence or repercussion.

[-] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 51 points 5 months ago

I projected three years ago that come the 2024 election it's all going to dissolve into a nothing burger, regardless who wins, it was solely a dog and pony show to keep us divided and on edge. The same way that Hunter Biden suddenly is no longer discussed now that Biden is out of the race.

[-] sudoshakes@reddthat.com 32 points 5 months ago

They wrote. It down.

It may prove to not end in consequences, but they took notes on a criminal conspiracy before the outcome and it’s part of evidence submitted in federal court.

Nothing burger is not nothing.

[-] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

The courts are already starting to wind down investigations. This would have been the result regardless who won

[-] GladiusB@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

It's always to distract you from who is really pulling the strings. The super wealthy.

[-] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 43 points 5 months ago

No the DOJ will begin winding down all investigations and closing cases against trump effective immediately. They are just trying to figure out how to do it.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 42 points 5 months ago

No.

It's over. Trump is never going to be held accountable for any of it. In a few years he'll die peacefully in his bed like Kissinger did.

[-] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 32 points 5 months ago

It’s all going away. There will be no punishment. We’re done here.

To be clear, none of that is a good thing.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 27 points 5 months ago

As a first time offender, he may not be getting a jail sentence regardless. Even if he did, though, he could just file an appeal and in the time it would take to hear it, he would be President and whatever sentence would be immediately put on hold l.

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 25 points 5 months ago

Laws only apply to poor people.

[-] AndrewZabar@lemmy.world 18 points 5 months ago

What part of "untouchable" do some people still just not comprehend?

[-] KombatWombat@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

Honestly, there is a reasonable chance he gets assassinated this term. No one is out of reach from the sword of Damocles.

[-] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 months ago

I like this Damocles guy, but I wouldn't hire him for interior decorating

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago

it's fucking joever, if the guy didn't have the nuts to nip this in the bud, he's certainly not going to grow a pair now and give him his just desserts.

[-] eran_morad@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

aint shit gonna happen.

[-] ilost7489@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 months ago

Theoretically, yes he can. Under US law (if the justice system was working correctly at all), no individual is above the law.

However, it is very unlikely. Trump is stupidly popular amongst people willing to overturn the establishment to let him do whatever he wants. Not to mention that he has a favourable supreme court that can just choose not to prosecute him.

[-] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 months ago

Biden as a zionist wants what zionists want. It seemed to be good electoral gambit back in 2021 to let Trump embarass himself and GOP more by walking around unhinged, but after October 7th, Zionists want him to win and DNC wants what Zionists tell them to want.

Putting Trump in military jail for the treason charges makes sense instead of Aileen Canon case, and makes sense after Aileen Canon misbehaviour. Either the treason charges are as serious as Jack Smith says they are, and military jail is the right solution today, or it was all a witch hunt as Trump calls it. DNC making fundraising charades to hand over power to GOP fascism seems to be very pro Trump of them.

[-] HawlSera@lemm.ee 5 points 5 months ago
[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Yes, he can.

But he won't be, or he'll be given a suspended sentence that will never be supervised.

[-] Enceladus@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 months ago

Odd. The question fits here, but it isn't a stupid question, its relevance is astonishingly stupid.

[-] WoahWoah@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

He won. Get over it.

[-] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I'm gonna mostly copy paste my answer from another question I answered:

What will happen is the judge would give a slap on the wrist sentence like a fine and call it a day.

Because the alternative is the judge giving a prison sentence and then the president goes “The NY Courts have made their decision, now let them enforce it” essentially creating a State vs Federal government political crisis.

Spoilers, the Federal government wins.

What if NY gonna do, send agents to somehow get past the SS to arrest the president?

If that was even attempted, the president would invoke insurrection act and arrest the governor/judge/ whoever gave the order for the arrest and flip the narrative, claiming the state officials are attempting a coup.

Edit: Also, giving him a prison sentence before he takes office wouldn't do anything either. Even if the Biden-led SS cooperates, on Jan 20 at noon he is president and the military is getting him out, he'd the order the arrest of NY state officials.

[-] m0darn@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

Yeah I agree that can't keep him locked up, but could they jail him, because honestly that isn't nothing. Obviously it's career suicide for anyone involved but you know.
