Nah I'm going to blame 70+ million Americans who chose a racist, sexist felon, fraud, rapist fascist over a black moderate woman.

[-] _stranger_@lemmy.world 72 points 8 months ago

I blame the 70ish million who decided the whole voting scene just wasn't for them.

(And the misogyny. Holy shit the misogyny)

[-] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I'm sure misogyny also played a big role in her numbers. But if Harris firmly opposed any material or diplomatic support for genocide, then she probably would have won despite the misogynists, no?

[-] chalupapocalypse@lemmy.world 25 points 8 months ago

No

There are not 5 million people sitting around who give a shit about any of that

[-] rtxn@lemmy.world 115 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

The problem was the one-third of eligible people who didn't vote, the people who wanted an immaculate president, and when they didn't get it, took a stupid, petulant moral high ground. Abstention and voting in protest only helps the enemy.

Anyone who thinks the Gaza situation or the treatment of muslims will improve under Trump is a fucking moron.

[-] BananaTrifleViolin@lemmy.world 31 points 8 months ago

This is nonsense sorry. Polls shows 50:50 split between Dems and Rep, but the reality is 1/3:1/3 with 1/3 of the electorate and disengaged. The voters aren't the problem, it's the fucked up 2 party system which has been massaged by both parties over many decades to prevent any competition.

Why should voters feel loyal to either of those parties? Don't blame voters for not wanting to chose between two crap choices. To many, both the Dems and Reps are the enemy. Why expect them to care if one side or the other think there is an existential crisis in the shitty system they shaped?

[-] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 8 months ago

I think people just want a president who doesn't materially support genocide. If that is too high a bar, then your country deserves what it gets.

[-] JimmyMcGill@lemmy.world 29 points 8 months ago

So they’d rather have a president who would support a genocide even more. Seems like a great decision.

Also, there were other issues at play in this election. Even Bernie Sanders said so

[-] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 8 months ago

Lol no "they'd" rather have a president who doesn't materially support genocide, but seems like that wasn't something people were allowed to vote for.

[-] JimmyMcGill@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

In other words they didn’t want to chose the lesser evil so they were fine with either option

Amazing decision.

[-] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 8 months ago

Or, it could mean they weren't fine with either option? "We're not quite as evil as the other guy" isn't the campaign slogan you seem to think it is.

Glad to hear you liberals finally outright say arabs and Muslims are fucking morons and took a petulant high ground instead of.... Voting for their own genocide.

You all continue to improve you're just as racist as red maga, with more condescension.

[-] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 9 points 8 months ago

If your choices are between honest genocide and dishonest genocide I guess people will choose the side with more virtues.

[-] hellothere@sh.itjust.works 37 points 8 months ago

Since when are people who facilitate fascism my allies?

How did you misread that this meme implied Harris was your ally?

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 34 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I blamed the DNC

https://democrats.org/contact-us/

You can put a made up email as long as it fits the xxx@yyy.com scheme.

I told them all to resign and congratulated them on chasing the mystical moderate all the way off a cliff

[-] BananaTrifleViolin@lemmy.world 25 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Blame the Democratic party and Joe Biden. They didn't put anyone serious up during the primaries against him, they held out from replacing Biden until the last minute and then they lumped Harris with his campaign and no time.

Biden should have stood aside last year (as many voices pushed for), and then the party's best and brightest should have been given the chance to be the candidate. It might have been Harris, who knows, but whoever it was would then have had the whole of 2024 across the primaries to establish a profile and narrative and tackle Trump.

And maybe a fresh candidate could have broken through on the most important topic to voters: the economy.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 8 months ago

It's wild how for months leading up to the election there were reports and reports on how the economy is doing great. People who pointed out that they weren't seeing it personally were belittled as not understanding the big picture. And now this election was lost because of economy - one side that I guess didn't say too much about what could improve (there was a lot on Harris' site and policies about it, but I guess that was too much for voters). And the other side who said the same thing as before, "going to have a beautiful economy, the greatest ever seen. No one knew it could be so good."

Well, let's do another four years, see what burns down this time.

[-] pwnicholson@lemmy.world 24 points 8 months ago

Yeah, because foreign policy decisions should definitely be made based on poll numbers.

I don't like our unconditional support of Israel, but this is a bad take.

[-] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

So your take is America shouldn't be a Democracy when it comes to how we interact with other counties? Bold.

[-] pwnicholson@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

That's exactly my point. We are not a democracy where every decision is put to a poll (especially not a poll made by some private group).

We are a representative republic where we elect leaders who are trusted to make decisions on policy in accordance to their beliefs and stated policy positions when they were elected.

If you think we live in an absolute democracy, that's pretty bold.

[-] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

So your take is Americans should have even less control over foreign policy than they already have and they should do so by not holding politicians accountable for foreign policy during elections? Why else would you propose politicians ignore the public on foreign policy issues? It seems like you want less democracy.

[-] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 8 months ago

So in your view, she bears zero responsibility for promising to continue foreign policies that remain deeply unpopular among her own voter base? She was aware this was an election, right?

[-] dontgooglefinderscult@lemmings.world 19 points 8 months ago

Yes, they should be. What the fuck are you talking about about?

Everything should be decided by poll numbers. That's the point of democracy, to vote for polices and decisions. If more people recognize we did a genocide and want us to stop doing said genocide a presidential candidate that wants easy votes might want to pledge to stop doing a genocide.

[-] kittehx 6 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I have to disagree. Like if most people were asking for more genocide, you should still not do genocide. Morality/ethics always need to come first.

But of course that doesn't matter here, seeing as both the people and the ethics are in agreement that genocide is bad.

the democrat leadership is to blame. i bet they'll run further right with republicans next election cycle. nowadays it seems they dont care about policies anymore, all they know is just running around shouting things like "abortion!" "trump bad".

[-] Disgracefulone@discuss.online 17 points 8 months ago

This is a shit take.

She lost because she's a woman.

She was never running against Trump. She was running against equality and misogyny. And she lost. In 2024, she lost to misogyny.

Jfc.

And the efforts of foreign influence.

[-] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

The best part is she could’ve even lied to get the votes. It’s not like it’s unprecedented.

And Americans say where they lived is primarily based on climate change, but then move to the worst areas for climate change. I don't give two shits what people say.

Lefty Memes

5784 readers
27 users here now

An international (English speaking) socialist Lemmy community free of the "ML" influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.

Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.

If you are new to socialism, you can ask questions and find resources over on c/Socialism101.

Please don't forget to help keep this community clean by reporting rule violations, updooting good contributions and downdooting those of low-quality!

Rules

Version without spoilers

0. Only post socialist memes

That refers to funny image macros and means that generally videos and screenshots are not allowed. Exceptions include explicitly humorous and short videos, as well as (social media) screenshots depicting a funny situation, joke, or joke picture relating to socialist movements, theory, societal issues, or political opponents. Examples would be the classic case of humorous Tumblr or Twitter posts/threads. (and no, agitprop text does not count as a meme)

0.5 [Provisional Rule] Use alt text or image descriptions to allow greater accessibility

(Please take a look at our wiki page for the guidelines on how to actually write alternative text!)

We require alternative text (from now referred to as "alt text") to be added to all posts/comments containing media, such as images, animated GIFs, videos, audio files, and custom emojis.
EDIT: For files you share in the comments, a simple summary should be enough if they’re too complex.

We are committed to social equity and to reducing barriers of entry, including (digital) communication and culture. It takes each of us only a few moments to make a whole world of content (more) accessible to a bunch of folks.

When alt text is absent, a reminder will be issued. If you don't add the missing alt text within 48 hours, the post will be removed. No hard feelings.

1. Socialist Unity in the form of mutual respect and good faith interactions is enforced here

Try to keep an open mind, other schools of thought may offer points of view and analyses you haven't considered yet. Also: This is not a place for the Idealism vs. Materialism or rather Anarchism vs. Marxism debate(s), for that please visit c/AnarchismVsMarxism.

2. Anti-Imperialism means recognizing capitalist states like Russia and China as such

That means condemning (their) imperialism, even if it is of the "anti-USA" flavor.

3. No liberalism, (right-wing) revisionism or reactionaries.

That includes so called: Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Dengism, Market Socialism, Patriotic Socialism, National Bolshevism, Anarcho-Capitalism etc. . Anti-Socialist people and content have no place here, as well as the variety of "Marxist"-"Leninists" seen on lemmygrad and more specifically GenZedong (actual ML's are welcome as long as they agree to the rules and don't just copy paste/larp about stuff from a hundred years ago).

4. No Bigotry.

The only dangerous minority is the rich.

5. Don't demonize previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

We must constructively learn from their mistakes, while acknowledging their achievements and recognizing when they have strayed away from socialist principles.

(if you are reading the rules to apply for modding this community, mention "Mantic Minotaur" when answering question 2)

6. Don't idolize/glorify previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

Notable achievements in all spheres of society were made by various socialist/people's/democratic republics around the world. Mistakes, however, were made as well: bureaucratic castes of parasitic elites - as well as reactionary cults of personality - were established, many things were mismanaged and prejudice and bigotry sometimes replaced internationalism and progressiveness.
