They call democrats every name under the sun whether it applies or not. About time they call a fascist a fascist...

I've called him a lot of names. This is just one.

I'm actually very surprised that she said that. Was this Harris stumbling off script, or will she continue saying it?

What about Harris — specifically — do you perceive to be fascist?

[-] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

When she is willingly taking money from fascist governments and boasting that she is receiving endorsements from war criminals and people that Democrats themselves labeled as fascist, they are fascist.

[-] Dasus@lemmy.world 17 points 8 months ago

So by that criteria, which American presidents haven't been fascist?

[-] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago
[-] Dasus@lemmy.world 18 points 8 months ago

Then I must conclude you're not using a reasonable definition of fascism.

Fascism is characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy and forcible suppression of opposition, all things which Trump has very explicitly stood for. He's basically said he's gonna kill off his political opponents, and that it's gonna be legal and there's not gonna be any repercussions for him.

I'd like for you to make a case like that against literally each and every single president of the US. You genuinely believe Jimmy Carter was striving to be a dictator?

[-] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Much of the conflict within the Middle East was started by Jimmy Carter.

And DOD directive 5240.01 updated Sept 27, 2024 is already laying the groundwork, under Biden, to allow US military to assist in addressing descent in the US up to and including harm or death. The things that liberals say are going to happen under Trump are already laying the foundation to have it happen under Biden.

[-] Dasus@lemmy.world 13 points 8 months ago

So your criteria for someone not being a fascist is not being involved in any military conflicts, at all?

Okay, so guess that means that pretty much all world leaders are fascists.

See what I meant with "not a reasonable definition of fascism"? The definition of any ideology might be a little fuzzy, but you're definitely colouring over the lines.

The things that liberals say are going to happen under Trump are already laying the foundation to have it happen under Biden.

Such as having a dictator who can freely do whatever they want without consequences, while exploiting the country and it's people and resources as much as they can (while actually being Putin's bitch)?

[-] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

It's Biden's team laying the groundwork for Trump to fulfill what he says he wants. But liberals will ignore that if it happens. Like they did when Trump was locking up kids while ignoring who built those cages for kids

[-] Dasus@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

You never worked with a reasonable definition of fascism, which I think I've successfully demonstrated to everyone. Now you're writing complete gibberish.

My job here is done.

[-] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

You demonstrated nothing other than capping for fascists

[-] Dasus@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Well, let's leave that up to the readers to decide, who are already agreeing with me, as indicated by the votes.

I understand you have a feeling of wanting to be virtuous and showing off that sense of morality. However, fascism has an actual definition, which isn't congruous with the one you are using.

Perhaps you can see what you're doing if I put it in an example that's in a slightly different context: You calling Jimmy Carter a fascist is like vegans calling everyone who isn't also a vegan "murderer". Murder has a rather rigid definition; intentionally and directly ending the life of another human being. Eating a burger doesn't get covered by that definition, no matter how much you stretch it's limits. It might be immoral to eat meat and indirectly participate in the meat industry, but it is not murder, and Jimmy Carter was — by no reasonable definition — fascist.

Vegans calling everyone who eats meat a murderer means they'd have no way of differentiating between people who intentionally kill other people, and people who... eat burgers. Can you foresee any problems if one actually lost the ability to differentiate between those things?

[-] UnrepententProcrastinator@lemmy.ca 14 points 8 months ago

So a useless definition then... Got it...

[-] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Does the idea that your party openly welcomes war criminal fascists into the fold make you feel warm and fuzzy?
