Are there any decent, smaller, #Queer-friendly #Mastodon instances that don't block #Threads?

Isn't "queer friendly" and "federates with Threads" an oxymoron?

@copygirl I have to say threads is much better now than when I first used it. The algorithm kept trying to push me into transphobic garbage.

The real question is not what the algorithm pushes to you, but whether their moderation actually bans bigots and removes their posts. Any other instance would lose their "right" to federate with a queer-friendly instance if they didn't do that, so why would Threads get an exception?

I question this assumption. It's based on a crypto-conservative mental model of a federation, where purity is more important than connection. The mirror image is a server that refuses to federate with any server that doesn't ban queers and delete their posts.

I'm not saying there's no value in that style of federation, or that it's somehow "wrong". Just that it's not universal.

There's also value in a model of federation that allows marginalised groups to get their messages out as widely as possible. Because as campaigns for things like drug law reform and Palestinian human rights demonstrate, some causes attract solidarity from groups who aren't natural allies.
