Honestly not that stupid. I have seen SD cards break. And for certain applications, like professional photography, having a more physically reliable medium is a good thing.
But I think cameras with dual SD cards for redundancy are more important.

I'm holding out for titanium do I can add it to my EDC loadout and totally dunk on that loser Travis at the office.
Now do MicroSD
The only SD card that ever failed on me was a barely used Lexar I bought for my camera. And it was not because it bent or anything.
Hopefully there's no aluminium in the SD card slot
Why?
galvanic corrosion
Aluminium and steel have interesting galvanic reactions when touching each other https://www.albanycountyfasteners.com/blog/stainless-steel-and-aluminum/
Thanks! Sounds destructive
Yep, although more for the aluminium than the steel!
Why did they call them 'gold' and 'silver pro'?
SteelPro
I would like for this to be viable, but right now it just seems like it would tear up your slot.
How? Your slot is designed to fit them. A damaged card having abnormal dimensions is way more likely to harm your slot than the card that isn't supposed to bend not bending.
Most of the sd card receptacles I see are made pretty cheaply and that means harder, less pliable materials like steel will make them wear faster.
This is a great idea at first glance - I've certainly had a few usb sticks come apart on removal
