Nothing in that headline is exaggerated or sensationalized. It's 100% factual.

For a supposed genius, I do get the impression this oligarch keeps taking many corrective measures for his own actions.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 78 points 1 month ago

To be fair, very smart people can say very dumb things outside their areas of expertise.

Also to be fair, Musk isn't one of those people.

[-] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

What area of expertise does he have?

Failing to create a successful company named X?

[-] barsquid@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Tweeting, "hmm interesting," about Nazis' thoughts.

I have not seen a single indication of genius by Musk. I see a spoiled trust fund man-child in the right place at the right time and who frequently pays other people to come up for ideas for him. I can literally think of dozens of people I've known over the years who are far more intelligent and would do much more with his starter funds from daddy.

[-] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

I've been in meetings with him when he was still active at SpaceX and before he truly dove off the deep end. I had direct conversations with him telling him his engineers were wrong about something. He was quite intelligent and knew his shit. He was arrogant and a dick, but it was obvious he knew a LOT about the rockets he was building. He wasn't doing the engineering, but he definitely understood the work going on.

Now, though, the dude is a fucking lunatic. I don't know if he just started taking too many drugs or if the billions of dollars made something break in his mind or what, but he was not like this back then.

[-] Ragnarok314159@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 month ago

No, he didn’t. He has no knowledge of rockets outside of Wikipedia. He has no knowledge of engineering outside of some shit science show.

I have worked with engineers who worked with him at Tesla and they say he is a functional idiot, borderline mentally defective. He will go into meeting and act like he understand magnetism and everyone has to sit there awkwardly listening for an hour about him rambling on like a moronic 6th grader until he leaves.

[-] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah, you're right, what was I thinking? Your second-hand knowledge is totally more accurate than my firsthand knowledge. I definitely didn't have technical conversations with him about propellant margins due to boil-off during coast. I absolutely wasn't there when he agilely and correctly answered a barrage of technical questions from a 3-star General.

I'm not saying he is all-knowing and all-powerful. I don't doubt he is so arrogant that he would ramble on about something he doesn't understand... especially magnetism, since I never understood that shit even after years of physics classes during college. But just because he is an idiot about the deep physics behind how electric cars run doesn't mean he is stupid about all things.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

I am sure I am not the only one who thinks a large amount of his success stems from Peter Thiel wanting to fuck him. And possibly actually fucking him.

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Musk came in as "the money guy" to PayPal before Theil was rich. It's why he was CEO for 6 months, but everyone hated him as a leader so much they fired him.

They all got really, really rich together, and the Elon risked it all on Tesla and survived via government handouts for a decade.

Easy to take big risks when you know you can pop back to dads emerald mine for a fill up at any point.

[-] doughless@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

For someone who likes to think of himself as a modern Nikola Tesla, he acts much more like Edison.

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 4 points 1 month ago

Its always projection. Claims to be a Nikola, is actually a Thomas.

[-] ByteOnBikes@slrpnk.net 19 points 1 month ago

I work with rich ego maniacs like him. Mistakes that he does means nothing to his ego. Mistakes that others make are personal attacks.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 82 points 1 month ago

It’s unknown why exactly Musk chose to delete the tweet but it may have had something to do with the discovery that Cooper has a habit of siding with Adolf Hitler on a number of issues.

That doesn't sound plausible, Musk frequently sides with Hitler too, so why should that be a problem?

[-] rayyy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Musk also sides with Russia and money.

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

So when I see this headline I thought:

“Does this mean there is a line for him that he wouldn’t cross or was this done to avoid bad optics”

Given the backlash we are seeing for the Tucker Carlson thing, it’s probably the ladder.

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 81 points 1 month ago

Everyone who has an account on that shitty site should post this screenshot and @ him.

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago

Only if you make it clear that the guy is at the very least a Nazi sympathizer. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who would assume you were being pro Musk and pro Carlson if you just posted the image without explanation.

Plus you're just giving the site activity. Deleting your account would be a much better statement.

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 month ago

“Trying to understand WWII” is forbidden apparently.

I guess that would make me respect my history teach more for getting me to understand WWII

Historians, the biggest rebels.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Every other documentary out there is about WWII because there is a vast amount of public domain footage and a vast amount of documentation to draw from. I think we try to understand WWII more than anything else out there that ever happened just thanks to the media making endless cheap WWII documentaries.

[-] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Yeah, my first thought would be, "could you be more specific?" because there's so many facets to it.

IMO a good one to understand is "How did a major war against a collection of fascist states result in communism being considered the big enemy?"

[-] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 39 points 1 month ago

"Elon musk deleted" or "the last standing PR guy for Elon musk persuaded him to delete"?

[-] kameecoding@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

We should probably just wait a few hours, maybe that person is about to get fired for going against musks free speech absolutism and the tweet gets restored

[-] Nunar@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

Tucker loves Nazis, and Putin, (authoritarianism, same boat) a d Elon wants in on that nonsense??

[-] buttfarts@lemy.lol 3 points 1 month ago

Elon loves Hitler-stans. He cannot love Hitler directly so he chose a Hitler-stan in order to enjoy Hitler by proxy.

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

This Bill Hitler? Or Adolf? Big difference!

[-] blarth@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 month ago

Jeff Epstein? The NY financier?

[-] obbeel@lemmy.eco.br 7 points 1 month ago

Believing that someone like Elon Musk, that is probably counseled by some of the best minds of the Earth (even if they're turned the wrong direction), is doing this out of stupidity isn't good. This is politically and economically fueled.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

The problem is that “someone like Elon Musk” is a billionaire insulated from virtually every bad decision he could ever make, therefore he doesn’t need any counsel other than “this lawsuit could cost you money if you do (thing).

He’s almost worth $200Bn, and even is someone sued and won for half his entire worth, he’d still have more money and power than 99.999% of the rest of the entire planet.

He is exactly the someone he wants to be, he can be as stupid as he wants as long as he doesn’t think his actual worth or power is truly threatened.

Where's 'free Speech' when we needed it? /s

[-] barsquid@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Are there two or three people mentioned in the headline? It is hard to tell.
