the pink substrate used to feed cells for a lot of bio science work needs to be completely sterile and should be standardized for purity. They are cooking it by hand, guaranteeing neither sterility nor purity, most likely resulting in unreliable results. but at least its cheaper than having to buy it.

Are you saying you literally just made up shit and coincidentally referenced a science thing?

yep, definitely. i just thought "hey wouldn't it be funny if two dudes just ate some undefined substance because it's cheap" and, uhhh, yeah

I thought the joke was eating aquarium substrate because it looks tasty.

I think they are cooking it to eat it because it's cheap

I mean cooking it should make it fairly sterile at least, though purity is still an issue.

one of my friends used to make some cheap garbage to eat for lunch everyday. I told him once I'd love to try it so I can do the same thing and he told me "no you wouldn't". apparently it was awful. lol
but cheap!
