Same energy as Tom Morello.

[-] Mirshe@lemmy.world 47 points 1 year ago

I love that people are surprised that a man who prominently wrote "ARM THE HOMELESS" on a guitar he uses on stage is leftist as fuck. Like, I don't know what you expected dude.

[-] ryannathans@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Arming everyone doesn't sound leftist as fuck, then again, it's ridiculous for something like political ideology to be represented by a one dimension

[-] killa44@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago

Go far enough left and you get your guns back

[-] Plaid_Kaleidoscope@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Ah, the good ol' horseshoe.

[-] plzExplainNdetail@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 year ago

Here's Horseshoe Theory in short film form.

[-] Mirshe@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

Good thing Morello only said the homeless - as in "the new stimulus package consists of a loaded Glock 19, a ski mask, bolt cutters, and the address of your closest millionaire or billionaire." That's what's being implied.

I don’t know who first came up with the joke, but I really enjoy “what machine did conservatives think they were raging against, the printer?”

[-] MiddleWeigh@lemmy.world 50 points 1 year ago

It doesn't take a degree to surmise that pumping our environment full of noxious gas is a bad idea.

[-] pec@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 year ago

Would leave your car running in the garage with the door closed? Earth = Big garage with lots of cars. That should be easy enough for anyone to understand

Then you get the "but it's only 0.04%, a small amount compared to the atmosphere".

Take an aquarium, fill it with water and add 0.04% of black ink. That's 8 drops per liter or 36 per gallon. And the whole thing turns hazy.

[-] MiddleWeigh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

You would think. Ugh. It makes complete sense to me, but these big picture things are kinda lost on many. There is a lot of angry, and confused people in my part of the world. In the end, I can't blame them, as they're apart of a larger system with the same mentality, and many have never been given a chance to see outside their own survival within that system. I can try though, and hope. Part of me feels the climate deniers are just that. In denial.. about their own place in the world, but do feel these consequences in their bones. Some are just outright selfish and really don't care.

[-] cley_faye@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Typical answers:

  • "well I'm not sure about that"
  • "I don't think so"
  • "you're wrong, do your research"
[-] Th4tGuyII@kbin.social 41 points 1 year ago

Makes me wonder how you could see the year-on-year increase in climate related natural disasters, temperature records being broken over and over in both directions, the shortening of the "between" seasons, and come to conclusion that Climate change isn't real.

Even arguing it isn't man-made is a better argument, because at least that only involves handwaving away the well-known effects of the pollutants we're dumping into the atmosphere by the tonnes.

[-] Signtist@lemmy.world 33 points 1 year ago

You'd be surprised how little these people can think about any given topic. When I was still in contact with my conspiracy theorist mom, she often sent me stuff that specifically went against her beliefs, but she misinterpreted them and thought they agreed with her.

One time I sent her a meme about "dihydrogen monoxide" to try to show her how easy it is to use scientific language to mislead people, but she literally thought it was real and didn't listen to me when I told her it was satire. That was the day I realized she was never getting out of the conspiracy hole.

[-] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 year ago

I'm sorry, that's tough. I know how difficult it is to have to accept this about someone you love, especially a parent. It sucks because even when you've given up hope of them changing, there's still a teensy bit of foolish hope that persists, and that always stings.

[-] wanderingmagus@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

"If climate change is real why is it still cold in the winter"

"There's no climate change, just earth cycles. This is a good thing actually."

"Climate change is fake and doesn't matter because Jesus is coming and the True Believers(tm) will be ruptured to heaven and the world will be destroyed and remade, as it is written"

"Climate change isn't real, the lamesteam media is a bunch of lying communist feminazis paid for by the liberals, and the scientists are all a bunch of fascist propagandists trying to turn America into a dictatorship ruled by gay Satan worshipping baby killers. We have to prepare to use our 2nd amendment rights to fight the commu-fascists flooding our country with illegal aliens."

-your average climate change denier. Also my mom, my uncle, and my mom's group of little old ladies at church.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

'they want to make you eat bugs'

is going to be hilarious when there aren't even bugs to eat. but by that point we'll have already eaten the rich, hopefully.

[-] soviettaters@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah, even the most extreme people I know just say that climate change isn't man-made. And I know quite a few crazy people.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 34 points 1 year ago

we're going to watch civilization fall while these fuckwits claim nothing is wrong and cough the atmosphere cough isn't a problem as we all melt

[-] pinkdrunkenelephants@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

Then let's stop trying to gain their acknowledgement or assent and pass laws to fix the problem they'll have to follow regardless of how they feel.

[-] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Over half our elected representatives think just like them. Can't pass laws as long as they're in power. So we need to vote them out first.

[-] pinkdrunkenelephants@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Well, we'll have a chance next year. Best get cracking

[-] hungryphrog 4 points 1 year ago

We are not all going to melt! Some are going to drown instead! It was very very fun to have 17 degrees and heavy rain for hours here in Finland yesterday when Southern Europe is on fire. :)

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Idk maybe she should get a PhD in every scientific field that she gets curious about /s

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago

How many PhDs do the people saying "listen to actual science" have you reckon?

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I forgot to add a /s which was apparently needed
