My general rule is: “if they have data they can sell, sooner or later they will.”
There are very few corporations that have proved me wrong.

Name one please, cause I can't think of any ...
Steam?
Always forgetting about good-guy-Valve
Founder led business, it won't last 2 ceos after Gabe exits.
This just the corp culture in the US. Parasites swarm companies to destroy them for profit.
Dude could have exited at like infinite most profitable points by now.
Organics die tho
Exactly. It is getting more common to set up non-profit foundations in such situations. Disclosure: There’s a lot of legal stuff I don’t understand but I think the idea is that by having a non-profit entity that is focused on the “mission” and not profits, they will be more able to make the good long-term, decisions a founder might make instead of whatever makes investors the most money.
That’s because they’re all out of business or bought up by their competitors.
Discord.
I will probably get downvoted because Lemmy has a hate boner for Discord, but they don't sell any user data.
Myeah... No...
Still didn't sell any data. And they completely removed OpenAI collaboration from the platform after experimenting with it.
As someone who listens to the earnings calls, the shareholders are forcing changes on the company and it is showing as disregard for their customers.
Oh no, the poor company!
Well in a away it is being gutted from outside. These "shareholders" are just bad faith actors extracting short term value.
Management is colluding tho, if it was not outright prepositioned for this play.
We're a Sonos family. Listening to Sonos right now as a matter of fact. But this really bugs me. I don't allow voices control in my home so was interested when Sonos brought out their own version. I've contemplated rolling it out, but now likely won't.
I just sent them a note along with my CCPA opt out request saying how I could no longer recommend their products unless they revert their practices.
And then I followed it up by telling all my family not to buy their stuff. Gotta at least do something about this BS.
Great. Now Sonos is crying. I hope you're happy.
I mean the alternative is just eating their shit… what’re you doing?
You did the right thing. Documenting this clown behavior is warranted.
Saying that you don't consent also has value.
I sold all my Sonos speakers after the app release debacle. I think I am getting out at the right time.
Out of interest, what did you replace them with? I’ll be looking for a new setup later this year.
@emmanuel_car @UTJD16 @YaksDC I highly recommend #AudioPro 🤩
For example, for the Sonos Move, the Audio Pro A15 produces a warm and very pure sound, has many features, but is (in my opinion) not a #privacy risk.
The Denon 150 using HEOS
Airmusic+ your favorite apps to listen.
Speakers are blocked from the internet and the interface is not as janku as the Sonos one. Bye bye Sonos shitshow.
Lmao it's called airmusic+? Hold on tight, with that name they will never do exactly what you expect them to do in one year.
It has been out for years, and at this stage I trust them more than sonos ;)
