[-] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 36 points 5 months ago

What else is Italy famous for? The Pope? Fascism? Sports cars? Fancy shoes?

[-] embed_me@programming.dev 31 points 5 months ago

Thinking they invented food. Pretending their grocery stores don't have junk food. Pretending they don't eat garlic bread when they think no one is looking.

In America we sometimes caricature France is like the quitters or coward in conflict. In Japan, they see Italy the same way.

Spaghetti is just ramen that surrendered

~~How does France factor into it? Spaghetti is Italian, isn't it?~~

Misread the comment, see replies

[-] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 4 points 5 months ago

Is just a pararel between the way Americans see French people to how Japaneses see Italians.

[-] Moghul@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Shit, I totally misread the comment and it didn't click in my head. I didn't know that's how JP views IT, learn something new every day I guess!

[-] fulcrummed@lemmy.world 22 points 5 months ago

Noodles were invented in China, so the inverse would be more accurate.

Yes, but katsu breading is far superior imo.

[-] Venat0r@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Italy is associated with spaghetti (see spaghetti western)

So the inserse would be "spaghetti ramen"

Noodles come from Asia, not Italy.

Tomatoes come from America.

So not much in spaghetti is from Italy.

[-] brb@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 months ago

It's not tho? Ramen is a dish and spaghetti is an ingredient

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Ramen noodles are an ingredient.

Also, since pasta noodles originated on the Pacific Coast, it would be more accurate to say that spaghetti is just Gangster Ramen.
