Someone knocking on the bathroom door:

Everything alright in there??

[-] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 17 points 6 months ago

You forgot the sound of a Sunchips bag. My not even conceived children are going to be deaf because I opened one back in the 90s.

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 months ago

Didn't they change the bag material recently to be quieter? I vaguely remember seeing something about that in the news.

[-] deranger@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 months ago

Yeah they stopped using the more environmentally friendly bags and switched back to what they used before thanks to people complaining so much.

[-] Drunemeton@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

I thought it was because someone tested that bag and found out it wasn’t biodegradable?

[-] deranger@sh.itjust.works 10 points 6 months ago

SunChips sales dropped 11% due to the bag: https://www.packagingdigest.com/smart-packaging/frito-lay-withdraws-noisy-compostable-sunchips-bag

I doubt they would really care of the bag is actually compostable or not, that’s not the point. More sales is. If the biodegradable bag was not degradable but still increased sales I bet they would have kept it.

Should be listed as 9001. That way IT'S OVER 9000!!!

Shampoo bottle falling in the shower while your toddler is trying to sleep directly on the other side of the wall. Might as well be an earthquake.

[-] Classy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 months ago

I'm generally great at traversing my house quietly, unless my fiance or child are asleep, and then I'm a fucking cave beast making as much noise as humanly possible, seemingly.

Accidentally slamming the toilet lid shut in the middle of the night

[-] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 10 points 6 months ago

Lemme raise you a challenger: microwave beeping at 3am.

[-] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 months ago

There's a way to turn off the beep entirely on most microwaves. I don't remember which button it is and I'm not going to look it up right now.

I turned it off on my microwave and one of my roommates promptly turned it back on. D:

O.M.G. You have forever changed my life.

They are still Lound when they are microwaving

I hate decibels. Such needless confusion over whether they're an absolute or relative scale, what the reference volume is, what the underlying SI units are. Are these all measured at a uniform distance? Why would you take a shower at the library?

Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

I imagine the measurement is something like "perception of sound to the human ear". A rock concert is generally very loud and whether you're 5 feet back or 30 feet back from the stage won't make a huge difference

[-] jsomae@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 months ago

A rock concert emanating from a point will sound considerably louder at 5 feet vs 30 feet and will make just as much of a difference as 50 feet vs 300.

Of course, accoustics in a concert hall are designed to minimize this difference. Doesn't explain jet fighters though.

Scrolling through this meme was weirdly timed, because the shampoo bottle I left too near to the edge just fell off in my bathroom.

[-] ulterno@lemmy.kde.social 7 points 6 months ago

Are you rustling a single leaf, for it to be less than a library?
Or does the library have a windy exterior full of trees with rustling leaves, for it to be at 40?

[-] DestroyerOfWorlds@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 months ago

Unmuted Porn from a crackly laptop speaker

[-] moshtradamus666@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

Never thought about that, it really does sound like a disaster just happened

[-] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

My old wooden stairs as I try to sneak above in the middle of the night.

[-] Zerush@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 months ago

Worse, a metal tray that falls out of the refrigerator at 3 in the morning.

[-] DNOS@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 months ago

And this gives you a scale on which you can't even compare opening a plastic bottle of water in the night

[-] Speculater@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

9000 decibels would rip the fabric of the Earth apart, the loudest sound ever reported was 172 dB.

So, this meme is accurate.

What's up with those weird AI images? That doesn't look like a normal takeoff to me.

Edit: What I saw in the image Plane image

[-] name_NULL111653@pawb.social 17 points 6 months ago

F/a-18 taking off from a carrier, here's the original image...

[-] TechieDamien@lemmy.ml 13 points 6 months ago

To be fair there is so much JPEG compression on the image, you can't see much of anything.

[-] Batadon@lemm.ee 3 points 6 months ago

Yes, the compression is bad, but you can't tell me that the plane isn't literally exploding right now. Also the vacuum cleaner looks off, but on second glance maybe it's fine? I'm not sure.

[-] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Jet taking off with catapult system on an aircraft carrier, the CATOBAR system is steam powered if I’m not mistaken.

[-] Batadon@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago

I've watched a CATOBAR video to see what you're talking about (interesting stuff btw), but isn't that unrelated? In this image there is no aircraft carrier, the wings are angled 45° upwards, and there are weird orange spots on the hull.

[-] name_NULL111653@pawb.social 7 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

We're looking at a rear view of a fighter with a V tail...

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

Dayum that's a thiccc booty

[-] clubb@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

The jets? That's the only orange.

You're probably being sarcastic

[-] Batadon@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

I don't think I'm seeing what you're seeing in that image.

[-] BanjoShepard@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

I'm pretty sure it's and f-14 launching off of a carrier, but the image is zoomed in so you only see a tiny portion of the deck obscured by the smoke. The orange glow is the jets on the back, and it's taken at an angle which makes the tail fins stick out weirdly.

[-] name_NULL111653@pawb.social 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I think it might be an f/a-18 actually, vertical stabilisers are more slanted in a V and the engines are closer together than on an f-14

EDIT: found the original image

[-] Batadon@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

Hmm okay, I see. I still think it looks weird but at least I get what you're saying now.

[-] name_NULL111653@pawb.social 1 points 6 months ago

It's possibly an f/a-18, the tail looks like a V and the engines are closer together like in the picture.

[-] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 months ago

The tail fins also move, and would be angled for takeoff

[-] skye@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

this meme image has been around far longer than AI image generation, no need to be paranoid about A.I

[-] Batadon@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Yeah, apparently I was just paranoid about it :/
