technically, they're called the fire brigade, not necessarily the fire prevention brigade

[-] zammy95@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

Some of the best fire starters (and unfortunately multiple arsons) I've met were fire fighters

[-] Daefsdeda@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 years ago

Met? How do you know so many arsons?

[-] Llewellyn@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

Maybe from the interest club?

[-] Daefsdeda@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago

c/arsonmeetup

[-] zammy95@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Well, the number I've met who are both is 2. Which is way too many. 3 if you count the guy who caught the local park's amphitheater on fire as well

Gets commented every second time this is posted but:

"Fire doesn't discriminate so we don't either" or something along those lines would've been infinitely better.

It's an effective advert if the purpose is to increase awareness of fire safety. We have some awful ones in the UK with partially burnt teddy bears and stuff. I think it's more leveraging popular imagery to deliver that message, rather than expressing LGBT support.

You can see on the right of the image there is another progress flag with text on it. I think it's safe to say this image is framed in a way to eliminate the context.

[-] IDatedSuccubi@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

It's cut off where it says almost exactly that on the right

[-] ichmagrum@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago

Less catchy and you'd need smaller letters, tho ...

Heat from fire

I suppose this is technically true. One could light a bigot and a trans person on fire and both would die a relatively equally agonizing death.

[-] Ryantific_theory@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

This does not spark joy.

[-] CheesedGrater@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

The inevitable heat death of the fire consumes us all

[-] Aesthesiaphilia@kbin.social 14 points 2 years ago

Fun fact: "the heat death of the universe" refers to the death of heat, not death from heat. Heat itself will die. There will be no more warmth in the universe, everything will end in cold and dark and ice.

[-] uriel238 4 points 2 years ago

More that the universe will all be the same temperature, which is, granted, really rather cold.

[-] simplecyphers@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Kinda? All energy will dissipate until everything is the same temperature. Idk what that temperature will be but it might be pretty cold. But heat wonā€™t just, like, go away. It will homogenize.

[-] Aesthesiaphilia@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

The concept of heat as we know it will be gone. If there's no differences in temperature then there's no heat.

[-] simplecyphers@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Heat - A form of energy associated with the motion of atoms or molecules

That would still exist. However a ā€œconceptā€ being defined as an idea, would not exist as there would be no living thing to think it up.

So heat would exist, the ā€œconcept of heatā€ wouldnā€™t. So your first statement is technically correct. Your second statement is wrong by the primary definition of heat.

[-] Aesthesiaphilia@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Atoms will fall apart and reach equilibrium too. No more atoms.

[-] simplecyphers@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Cool. I donā€™t know if that aligns the the current theory and frankly, donā€™t care enough to research it.

But that doesnā€™t disprove my statement. Unless all matter juices itself into energy, heat will exist. heat is a property of matter unless said matter is at -273 C (which seems impossible that that is the temperature for the universe to settle on)

Butā€¦ Iā€™m not a theoretical physicist and you probably arenā€™t one either. So we are both out of our depth.
