I have zero interest in this game, so I have no horse in this race, but the censorship does seem a little silly. It’s rated M, are we really so puritan that a little cleavage needs to be covered up?

[-] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 57 points 7 months ago

It is silly but what's even sillier is being legitimately mad at this

[-] figjam@midwest.social 31 points 7 months ago

Can we just agree that everyone is a little stupid here? Except for us. We are Rad.

[-] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 27 points 7 months ago

I can agree that I am very smart and cool

[-] Heavybell@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

I am not mad, but I am disappointed in sony on principal. I want to see the game the devs wanted to make. Eventually. If it comes to PC one day.

[-] DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I am not mad about not being able to play the uncensored version. I was likely never going to play it anyway, since it's not the style of games I play.

I am mad that devs wanted to make a game certain way and Sony stepped in to censor it. And this kind of puritan censorship is spreading everywhere.

[-] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Me when a couple inches of fabric

[-] DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Sure, its tiny. Honestly, if it wasn't for the promises from devs that there would be no censorship, I doubt anyone would notice. In this case, it is just about the principle for me.

I think they were trying to avoid getting a Cero Z rating in Japan.

[-] swayevenly@lemm.ee 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I read Japan is making them censor the game so that could be part of the reason. The 'Hard R' graffiti is something else.

Correction: It was EA Japan complaining about why the Japanese rating board banned their game but allowed Stellar Blade uncensored.

[-] VaultBoyNewVegas@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

They didn't. Only 2 weeks ago the Devs were boasting about it being uncensored.

[-] Randelung@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

From an outside perspective? Yes.

[-] DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works 48 points 7 months ago

On the one hand I'm all for horny shit in games, and I think they should go full nude just for the hell of it. But on the other hand, I had to squint to be able to tell the difference between the outfits.

[-] superfes@lemmy.world 18 points 7 months ago

Same, I spent like over a minute trying to find whatever the fuck they were talking about.

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 13 points 7 months ago

I actually like the new one better, because it has a bit more interesting details. It's not all about the amount of skin shown, IMO.

[-] Ptsf@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

I think it's the blood most people would be upset about. It's clearly toned down and diminishes the original intent. At least, that's what I hope they're upset about.

[-] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 33 points 7 months ago

The sole purpose of this game seems to be for batin' so I agree the censorship is stupid. Still not my kind of game.

[-] Gamoc@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

This game has a good story, great combat, and an interesting world. The ONLY reason you think it's for wanking is because the women characters in the game are all dressed in fetish gear and lingerie despite there being no mention of sex or sexuality anywhere in the game. It's pure fetishization and it's especially creepy on the two different characters who look underage.

[-] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

The... only reason I think it's for wanking is because the developers dressed their characters in fetish gear...?

Y-Yeah....?

[-] Gamoc@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Point being it's a pretty good game with overt and put of place fetishization of specifically women characters and that's why some people have an issue with the sexualisation. Every male character is covered head to toe, most of them even have full head mask/helmets. The game isn't sexy at all - a side character mentions love and Eve literally doesn't know what it is - other than the outfits.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago

It’s great value brand Nier: Automata.

[-] Killer@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago
[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

I saw that and I believe it’s a very nice statement.

[-] verenor@lemmy.tf 26 points 7 months ago

I want you all to have fun and honestly just want to know the reason behind why in the consumers eyes an astonishingly big amount of women in videogames barely wear anything and have some dumb backstories to why they can't wear more. Would you feel the same if it was the case with men in videogames? Do you care more about some jiggly parts here and there than immersion and logic? I also very much enjoy womens bodies but would appreciate a bad ass armour on a bad ass character way more than a freaking swimming suit. No crititque, just honest interest.

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 20 points 7 months ago

than immersion and logic

That's not how fiction works. I'm not interested in a perfect recreation of reality in my video games. What would be the point? I can't even play Stellar Blade, but I fucking hate the puddle deep take that Realism = Good. Are The Muppets bad because it's not realistic? Is Star Fox bad because furries aren't real? Is CoD better then Halo because Halo has Plasma Rifles?

Immersion doesn't break because there's titties on screen. It breaks when the game stutters because of poor optimization or when an MTX menu pops up.

[-] Obonga@feddit.de 10 points 7 months ago

To answer your question: i do not mind sexy men in a game with sexy women. Quite the opposite. It makes "sense". Then again it is, in my opinion, also ok to cater to only a certain group. Your point of immersion also holds true but it very much depends on the game. I do not need logic and immersion in all games. Also you have universes where things just work weirldy and you have to accept it. I have no issue accepting the rules of fantasy worlds.

[-] Heavybell@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Logic only needs to be internally consistent for immersion, anyway. It doesn't need to be consistent with our reality.

[-] PsychedSy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 7 months ago

Depends on the game. It would be out of place in Beyond Good and Evil or a lot of story-focused games. In a spectacle fighter? Everything should be absurd. You're flying through the air smashing shit - gravity defying tiddies isn't an issue.

[-] Damage@feddit.it 4 points 7 months ago

Men in videogames are hot as well, even if more dressed.

Ask a man what's a sexy attire for a woman, and most of the time they'll answer lingerie or something like that. Ask a woman and they'll answer business attire or fitting shirts.

That's just demand.

[-] Shou@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Screw the straight men and gay women. Where are the himbos in v strings?

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Oh, my mind is in FPS stuff, but Twisted Wonderland and other Fujoshi games are popular for that demographic.

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Maybe Fashion Police Squad? Someone else mentioned Loadout. Otherwise, be the change you want to see in the world and make Doom WAD.

[-] twinnie@feddit.uk 19 points 7 months ago

Why am I constantly hearing about this game? Aren’t there millions of these Devil May Cry type games with an attractive young girl? The reviews for this one aren’t even that good.

[-] Obonga@feddit.de 12 points 7 months ago

Good marketing. I would never even have heard about this game if it was due to constructed outrage.

[-] HubertManne@kbin.social 3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

commercials are constantly running on crunchyroll for it.

[-] NIB@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

It is by the developer of Nikke, which is the 3rd biggest mobile game, after Genshin Impact and Star Rail. It has a very attractive protagonist, apparently great combat and was praised by the Nier Automata creator(with which it shares many similarities).

What other similar DMC games, with similar fidelity and attractive female protagonist, have come out recently? Also this game is kinda more dark souls like in combat, less actiony, more deliberate.

[-] jaschen@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago

I bought this game recently and I'm enjoying it. It's a bit slow tho.

[-] eee@lemm.ee 13 points 7 months ago

Someone's going to make a nude pack for it anyway, doesn't matter what Sony does

[-] wdx@feddit.de 11 points 7 months ago
[-] Moghul@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

That just feels like an accidental fuckup tbh

[-] luxyr42@lemmy.dormedas.com 7 points 7 months ago

It being one of the things they want "uncensored" is revealing.

[-] Moghul@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Aren't we talking about the cleavage cover and the extra hip cloth in the second image?

I'm not familiar with the twitter brain rot, if they want the racist insinuation back, that's really something. If the dev caught shit for a weird crop that's dumb as fuck too but who cares about the graffiti?

[-] Coskii 10 points 7 months ago

They censored the ramen sign from on to off? Those bastards!

Honestly there are so many skimpy outfits that I wonder if the people who are upset have even actually played the game of if they're just being loud to make noise.

[-] Coskii 4 points 7 months ago

They really didn't leave much to the imagination..

[-] Evotech@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

The sign did say "hard r"

[-] PiratePanPan@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 7 months ago
