I like how it starts out ALMOST coherent and legalese, but then quickly derails into unhinged rambling with ACCENTUATED capital WORDS like it MATTERS.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 29 points 6 months ago

They actually think it does matter.

Legal document SLAMS court.

[-] CatZoomies@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

It’s SUPER effective!

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 43 points 6 months ago

Every time I see them make up entire sentences worth of gibberish because they think words have magic powers, I laugh.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 23 points 6 months ago

In those groups they have all these templates of crazy listed in their files section. They send my lawyer friend into hysterics.

The bizarre thing to me is not so much their arguments that the US Government is illegitimate and does not have the best interests of its citizens/property/whatever at heart. The former is only really stupid to the extent you don't compare it with every other government, and the latter is extreme and defeatist but not without a certain amount of evidence. Don't get me wrong, it's deeply troubling that they feel this way and it's a mindset that's ripe for radicalization, but it's easy to see how they get there.

No, the real bonkers part is that they feel this way, yet they still operate as though there's an administrative path through it all, and that the horrific deep state still feels compelled to respect certain 18th century legal niceties and exists within some legal framework, even if it's not the one they let be public knowledge. I guess maybe it's a way to square the circle of their deep alienation from society with their desire to still live within it. Maybe the legal system humors them to keep them from doing something really nihilistic and dangerous.

I mean it’s not like they don’t have magic powers. It’s just that the law that society has (more or less) agreed on has WAY BETTER magic powers.

This sovcit has asserted "grammatical deception" as part of their counter claim, yet they submit a crime against syntax and grammar.

When this sub first started picking up steam, I thought it was kind of funny to laugh at the nutty conspiracy theorists, but now I’m starting to think I’m laughing at people who are legitimately mentally ill.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 21 points 6 months ago

As the person who posts these I would not say I find them mentally ill, just broke thieves.

[-] lars@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 6 months ago

mentally ill

and super poor and the Americans have extremely limited access to mental health care and overwhelmingly robust access to social media. I imagine a couple generations from now, we on this sub will seem as empathetic as people who would bring their kids to public executions

[-] MisterMoo@lemmy.world 27 points 6 months ago

When you’ve issued a home loan to a mentally ill person.

[-] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 25 points 6 months ago

“Forced to act like a Roman slave”? 🤣

At least you know the character

[-] Granite@kbin.social 13 points 6 months ago

This is the literal insanity that keeps me going

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 14 points 6 months ago

It's such good insanity. It's not depressing like conservatives or antivaxxers are or mentally ill people.

As much as I know they're crazy, I agree with how they got there. It's not like public education does a good job of educating citizens in legal and government literacy. The US government is biased, abusive, and puts corporate interests over the welfare of people which can trap folks into a kind of life they can't possibly hope to escape from. There aren't many options for people who want to leave society. Few places to go that aren't owned, protected and regulated. The sovcit movement is madness, but I understand what broke these people and made them want to take control of their lives. It's a shame people profit off providing misinformation to these folks.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 19 points 6 months ago

Most of them are people just trying to get out of paying child support.

[-] nightwatch_admin@feddit.nl 10 points 6 months ago

Quit putting that nonsense online, it’s not a poor, uneducated people thing. The Netherlands has had more than decent education for everyone since forever, and it still has an extremely fast growing sovcit problem since about 3 years. Reiterating the “bad US gubbernmint” claim is not helping anyone.

[-] Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

I'm sure screaming into an echo chamber is helping everyone.

[-] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

I was told there would be no math

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

My friend dug around and found this court case, apparently what sovcit is chuffed about is that the big bad government wanted his dog to have a rabies shot.
