It’s weird how when the Department of Transportation is using the bike lane, they give themselves an entire car lane for protection.

You can laugh at someone's fragile masculinity without associating it with their body. The correlation between car-culture and body weight is not an excuse for fat-shaming.
Stay on-topic. Submissions should be on-topic to the externalities of car culture in urban development and communities globally. Posting about alternatives to cars and car culture is fine. Don't post literal car fucking.
No traffic violence. Do not post depictions of traffic violence. NSFW or NSFL posts are not allowed. Gawking at crashes is not allowed. Be respectful to people who are a victim of traffic violence or otherwise traumatized by it. News articles about crashes and statistics about traffic violence are allowed. Glorifying traffic violence will get you banned.
No reposts. Before sharing, check if your post isn't a repost. Reposts that add something new are fine. Reposts that are sharing content from somewhere else are fine too.
No misinformation. Masks and vaccines save lives during a pandemic, climate change is real and anthropogenic - and denial of these and other established facts will get you banned. False or highly speculative titles will get your post deleted.

This about the dumbest post I've seen today. How dare these people exercise safety so that they can install the fucking safety barriers that you want for the bike lanes. Holy shit, take a step back and get a sense of reality.
The point is that the teeny little barriers they're installing which are supposedly adequate for cyclists' safety are far less protection than the massive buffer they have as protection while installing them.
It's not about blaming the people doing the installation, it's about highlighting the government's hypocrisy when it comes to cyclist safety.
I get the point. It's just a shitty point. We can agree that the bike lane is not sufficiently safe, and you claim that those barriers are inadequate, but comparing the safety of bikers in the bike lane vs workers literally working in the car lane, and somehow correlating them shutting down that lane as hypocrisy is a shit argument. Apples and oranges.

Why didnt they barricade the car lane off and use that to install the bike barrier lane protectors from ? Use stop / go personell so cars can use the other lane.
They've blocked the entire cycle lane with what looks like a compressor up ahead as well (presumably to supply a pneumatic drill for the bolts)
Or here's an idea, install concrete barricades from the back of a truck with a crane that actually project cyclists from being murdered.
That is an idea, but it has nothing to do with this post. You've taken my criticism of OP and spun it into something completely different. The post isn't about the safety of the bike lane. It's about the supposed hypocrisy of closing down the car lane while doing construction work in it. It's asinine. You can piss and moan about the barriers not being enough, but regardless of the device being installed, closing off that section of the car lane (and bike lane for that matter) is the only prudent thing to do for the safety of those workers.
The cyclists deserve the same buffer the workers have.
I agree, if cyclists are actively do construction work that requires them to be in the car lane, they should close the lane off. It would be absurd to suggest otherwise.
The amount of space between the worker in the street and the cones is much wider than the space afforded by the barriers they are installing.
Yea, because they're doing construction in the car lane. I suppose they maybe didn't need the whole lane closed. They could have just closed half of it, because that makes sense. Comparing construction workers camping in the road to cyclists riding along side it is why this is such a shit argument.
Look up the size of bike lanes in Denmark ... we can do so much better! You're brainwashed into thinking this little sliver of space is enough protection. And also, these are almost certainly activists and not construction workers, so I'm not upset at them, they're placing the protective barriers alongside the existing bike lane because that's way more possible than surreptitiously creating barriers taking up any part of the driving lane.
You are not understanding. This has nothing to do with whether bicycle lanes are big enough, or if those are licensed construction workers. All that matter is that there are people doing construction work that overflows into the car lane, and the only sane thing to do is close the whole lane. My response is entirely in response to what OP posted and captioned. I do think that bike lanes could be wider and better protected, but that's not what this post is saying.

Functionally there is no difference between them closing half the lane and closing the full lane because cars still can't use half a lane. Closing half would therefore be really dumb as it only invites confusion.
Half a lane gives some space to merge, it's super common around construction sites idk what to tell you
