We definitely can, it just would take a lot of effort and sacrefices the majority aren't willing to take.
We could shut down every coal power plant tomorrow, better to have some brown outs than to not have a planet at all.
I suspect it's actually the minority who would be unwilling to sacrifice. Most people sacrifice every day, seemingly more and more every financial quarter, but not for any greater good. Just so that wealthy minority can pad the bottom line they think will make them safe in an increasingly precarious world.
And bring the unemployment rate to a new high? I agree coal plants need to shut down and be replaced but it can't all be done in one snap.
Climate change will kill many more people than unemployment does.
