I'm a scientist and I'm generally dismayed by the direction of higher education and academia. Apparently it wasn't always like this, but it's hard to distinguish between problems that have existed for the last few decades and more deeply embedded problems
Edit: oh! I've just noticed that the author of OP's article is the same author as the blog post I linked, Bret Devereaux. That's funny
