I always kind of expected informed consent to come under attack once it was discovered by conservatives. Up to this point I think there's been a blessed level of ignorance in the wider public regarding the specifics of how meducal transition works, it's something that trans people and allies have been able to keep as kind of an open secret of sorts.

This is good, as it allows trans people to quietly and efficiently recieve the care they need while ducking a lot of the political rage from conservatives. It's something that allowed them to take some agency for their own selves, unbeknownst to most right-wingers.

But now I fear the fixation will be on killing informed consent and trying to bring in draconian restrictions and gatekeeping again, which will only serve to hurt trans people.

i think it's less ignorance and more using children as a wedge. from what I've seen, they're at least somewhat familiar with wpath and the standards. they want to ban transition period but know people won't accept it if they start with a complete ban
