My dad had this surgery in the late 90s. Hopefully it's better by now because, yeah, yikes is right.
I remember him spraying antiseptic in his mouth for a few weeks after it was over and almost screaming at the pain every time. It must have been a requirement because there's no way anyone would volunteer for that kind of pain.
The real kick in the teeth was that it didn't actually help either.. He still snored like crazy and the restless leg syndrome (although now I think it's called periodic limb movement disorder) was unchanged.
Holy crap that's horrifying. And it didn't work, what the F.
Sorry to hear that.
Oh geez I just looked it up and the recommended surgeries are lasering off your uvula, parts of your tongue or soft palate.
Oh get out of here, those cannot be the healthiest solutions.
Funnily enough, it's what i have been considering for a month now. I don't wanna snore and I'm ready to call up a doctor over it.
Best o luck. Have you exhausted all nonsurgical options already?
If you're set on surgical, it looks like rather than removing tissue in the hopes of removing obstruction, they can implant pieces of plastic that will encourage the growth of scar tissue that reinforces the structure of the soft palate so that it doesn't collapse and cause snoring.)
I wouldn't start taking things out of my body unless there was no other option.
Also, it's often done with a laser nowadays, which is less invasive.
Haven't snored since I started using CPAP.
What is this euphemism treadmill for restless leg syndrome? Who could possibly be offended?? Lol
I'd imagine it's a reclassification of symptoms so that treatments can be better targeted.. Not because it hurts someone's feelings.. That's dumb.
