"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
That's some wishful thinking for many folks, though. Sure, you can nope about it, and then be nope-ed off your job if it ain't secure enough. Doesn't stop me from trying ๐
Depends on which country you're in, how supportive your union is and how strong your legal workers protections are. You don't have to say "nope" out loud. When I'm asked something like this, I often say nothing or say "ok" while fully knowing there's no way it is going to be done on an hour and I'm going to work at my normal pace.
Saying "nope" makes you defiant. Saying at the end of an hour that "the work isn't done despite my best efforts", usually can't be actioned harshly. It's the same as saying nope in the first instance, just keep that part internal.
