A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

I'd just let that shit sit there and keep telling them "we're working on it" with the approval process. I would definitely keep stalling until November to see what happens.
Just arrest and detail the mongrels! Don’t they have ICE there?
You can’t be reasonable with the Demented ad that’s a sign of weakness.
What makes you think they will wait?
You're spot on. They're going to do whatever they want, and if their exploratory wells prove reserves Trump will just declare Greenland part of the U.S. and that's that. There is already a U.S. base on the island and it will be manned with sufficient troops to suppress dissent.
Except it won’t really be the end of it and therein lies the risk. Trump maybe thinking that since the US has a base on the island and the Greenlanders have no army of their own, that the island is technically already his. It’s exactly the kind of incompetence and stupidity that got him entrenched in a forever war with Iran.
And just like Iran made a mistake by not posing a credible threat, Europe is far to lenient when it comes to threats like these. If Europe doesn’t respond with threats of their own, Dementia Donnie might actually start a second European war in Greenland.
I say second, because there is no way Trump is going to end the Iran-war before the midterm elections, even though he seems to think so.
That's the terrifying part, Trump has no capacity for strategic thinking, no regard for anyone else, and no respect for human life. There are only about 56K people on Greenland, and he would treat them like the Conquistadors treated the natives they encountered, or the settlers treated the Native Americans as they stole their lands. Of course there would be huge backlash from Europe, which would likely involve isolating the U.S. from trade, but I doubt there'd be a hot war against the U.S.. I could be wrong though. In any event, Trump is a moron, a horrible person, and it will take the collapse of the U.S. to get rid of him.
I don't think Trump is ready for the shitshow that will cause. Eu has decided to support Greenland, and the response was readied already last year. If USA does this it will be completely devastating to relations between USA and EU. Resulting in a trade war like never seen before. And it will utterly destroy NATO.
I’m nearly certain it would result in a shooting war.
We will have to remind all of our active service members about the long and rich tradition of fracking.
Putting troops in a shooting war for Greenland is going to be a hard sell and it seems as though the rank and file need to be reminded that they literally have a responsibility per the UCMJ to refuse illegal orders
That is absolutely possible too, and we know USA isn't very good at arctic warfare.
If they don't then any pretense of the US not being the number one world threat is over. It would be seen as an invasion. We could end up sanctioned out of world trade and Greenland will likely be defended militarily. That could lead to world war. Given the state of US military leadership, that could be the end of the United States of America. No good outcome could come of it. It would be catastrophically stupid.
