A Shadenfreude Morning (media.piefed.social)

Usually I am sympathetic towards people losing their jobs. However, that goes out the window when their government is hostile and I am watching family struggle due to the trade war.

To the Americans crying about how unfair we're being by celebrating their economic loss and how "what are we supposed to do about our administration?"

Now you know a fraction of how every person in a country under US sanctions feels. The exact logic you're railing against is the same logic your country applies to Cuba.

The difference being those people have to deal with the immiserstion of brutal poverty and you just have to deal with having to find a new job and some mean Canadians online poking fun at you. Cry me a river.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

You can dress it up any way you like, delighting in innocent people's suffering makes you unequivocally a huge asshole and always will.

[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

YOU VOTED FOR YOUR MISSERY AND IT AFFECTED THE WORLD AND NOW YOU ARE SURPRISED PEOPLE ARE NOT SUPPORTING YOU.

YOUR COUNTRY IS THE WORLD TERRORIST AND THE FACT THAT ONE MAN CAN AFFECT THE WORLD ECONOMY LIKE YOUR ORANGE MUSSOLINI HAS IS PROOF OF IT.

YES, PEOPLE ARE HAPPY THAT YOUR COUNTRY IS FEELING A SLIGHT SLIVER OF WHAT IT HAS DISHED OUT TO OTHERS IN OVER 250 YEARS.

YOUR IGNORANCE IS WHAT FUELS YOUR COMMENTS AND YOUR "EXCEPTIONALISM" IS ALL YOU KNOW.

IMAGINE THINKING YOU ARE THE BEST NATION ON EARTH ALL WHILE TERRORIZING MOST OTHER NATIONS FOR OVER 100 YEARS.

THIS IS WHY WE ARE PISSED.

NOW FUCK OFF AND GET RID OF YOUR FASCISTS.

[-] prole 3 points 6 days ago

Yeah I agree, we suck.

However, don't you ever fucking tell me that I voted for this ever again.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Didn't read it, but like I said, dress it up any way you like, bigot.

[-] dom@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago

That's not what bigot means lol

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Absolutely does actually

One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

Intolerance of people from any country will always be bigotry, nothing you or I could do to change that regardless

[-] dom@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

Not having sympathy due to the government you guys elected is not the same as intolerance. Stop acting like a victim

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I'm not a victim, I didn't lose my job and become homeless only to be mocked for my suffering even though I hated and opposed trump. (An actual thing that positively will become true.)

I'm just an inconvenient truth teller for you all. There are no words you can say to justify mocking the suffering of innocent people which we all know will happen. We both know it and that these justifications are for making yourselves feel better. Good luck with that.

[-] dom@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

Good for you or im sorry to hear that or whatever. I dunno i didn't read it when it sounded like more whining. Bye baby girl

But by your own definition of bigotry there’s none of that to be found in this thread. Sure, you could construe an intolerance of people from the US (even though it’s more like intolerance of their many years of harmful bullshit) but there’s absolutely no partiality toward any group. It’s purely frustration at the US and many of its citizens’ stubborn unwillingness to own up to the countless problems their country has caused across generations, let alone right now.

[-] Someone@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

I'm intolerant of the US in the same way someone might be lactose intolerant. When you find out, it doesn't mean you immediately hate all dairy, you just have to start considering what items are worth the consequences.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Ps is it "many years of harmful bullshit" that are going to be homeless because they lost their job? You all cannot defend this shit and you know what you are, you just think it's justified because others are worse

[-] binux@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

The holier-than-thou mentality really doesn’t hold up to any standard of practicality when it comes to relations between countries. No doubt people are struggling in the US, yet purely because of the fact that there are more people living outside of the US as opposed to within its territories, you better believe I’m going to be grateful when non-US folk are doing better than US ones, especially since it’s in spite of everything the latter has done.

Plus a little schadenfraude for all the problems we’ve overcome and even improved ourselves through after the US sent them our way, it’s good for morale after all.

Maybe those innocent people should haul a guillotine down to DC and loudly complain to those responsible for this mess instead of pointing fingers at other countries.

Y'all get no sympathy from me. Take care of your fucking fascism problem. The second amendment is useful for more than shooting children in classrooms.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Take care of your fuckong fascism problem. The second amendment is useful for more than shooting children in classrooms.

What a useful thing to say. Because all Americans are murderers or at least delight in school shootings, all we have to do is violently overthrow the most powerful government in history. This is totally not the thinking of a brain damaged child.

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Oh wow! The exact same sentiment that USians were repeating time and again for the past four years about Russians, is verboten when it comes to USians themselves. What a surprise!

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Literally never heard this once. You hang out in some fucking weird places and I'm guessing you're just admitting to being a tankie with this.

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Oh yeah, anyone who's pointing out USian hypocrisy is a tankie.

Ever heard of realpolitik? Being righteous doesn’t matter on a geopolitical scale, especially not when it comes to an imperial superpower currently in the midst of its death throes. I’m afraid you’ll have to come to terms with billions of people understandably revelling in hundreds of years of a country’s utter nonsense finally returning itself to sender. Might be irrational, but it’s definitely not without precedent.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yes I have heard of flimsy bullshit justifications before

[-] binux@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

Mhm… I’m sure you have some solid reasoning for that claim that you’re withholding for good cause and not for a complete lack of substance.

You are paying the price of stupidity and it is just the beginning. It is not about being Happy or Sad, it is just how life corrects itself and show people how stupid they have been.

Sometimes the baby gets thrown out with the bath water. It sucks, but that's life (at least, that's what people say).

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I literally have you tagged as "victim blamer" from months ago.

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Wow, a fan. Sorry I don't pay attention to the internet names but I used to read Dick Tracy in the newspaper as a kid. Your heart seems in the right place you just need to step further back a little to see the whole forest.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I have stepped back. That's why humanity is so fucking consistently disappointing.

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

So all the USians celebrating that Russia is cut off from Western trade and SWIFT, and that its economy is failing, are huge assholes?

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Did you actually think I wouldn't say yes to that? "No, it's fine to do it when I hate an entire people" /s

Literally the entire point I'm making is that it is horrendous to blindly cast hatred upon thousands/millions of strangers.

[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

But yet you have no words for your own country only others.

SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOUR WORDS ARE MEANINGLESS AT THIS POINT FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD.

[-] prole 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I do not always agree with the person you're replying to, but to suggest that they don't ever have criticism for the US is extremely disingenuous.

What they're arguing is that there are over seventy-five million of us that actively voted against this, and those people do not deserve the blame here.

Do you know how many people that actually is? I mean truly?

According to a quick Google search, the amount of people who voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 is larger than the entire populations of every country after Germany on the list of nations by population. That's from number 20 to number 234.

https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/population-by-country/

That's the amount of people who voted. For Kamala. People who were eligible, registered, and showed up even after Dems pulled their candidate last minute.

More people than in all of Thailand. More people than in all of France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Turkey, South Korea... I will stop because it would literally be easier to just list the 19 nations with a higher population than total Kamala Harris voters.

Now spread that over a land mass the size of China, and maybe you'll start to understand why people in Washington State aren't "making a day of it" to bring a guillotine to the white house (and do what, exactly? I mean talk about empty fucking gestures) in DC. A literal continent away. A literal physical impossibility for a working person to do.

[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

Just like Germans in 1945.

American exceptionalism right here folks.

They are now too afraid to fight fascists because they are the fascists.

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Well, then I don't see any shortage of USian assholes on social media, specifically Lemmy and especially Reddit.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I literally haven't seen that come up. My eyes have been opened about this "Canadians are so nice" thing though. Total bullshit.

Edit: The fact that you bring up Russians out of the blue like this on Lemmy is interesting for me personally too because my go-to example, on this topic, of what I wouldn't do is wish ill on the Russian people as a whole because of Putin's misdeeds. The reason it is my go-to example is that I know Putin has a lot of public support there.

It will never be okay to wish death and despair on large groups of innocent people because of what oligarchs do. It just makes you seem like a thoughtless and heartless bigoted piece of shit if you do it.

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

All of them? What about the "innocent" ones?

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Ohh you got me! I'm a huge hypocrite. Because what I was saying is that I take great pleasure in knowing every newly homeless Canadian absolutely deserves it! Hahahha I'm fucking evil but it's justified!! /s

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

It's refreshing to see an internet person admit when they're wrong. That's the first step to wisdom. Don't worry, you'll get there.

[-] Promethiel@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

It literally doesn't matter. It is total bullshit, but it is human bullshit.

Some will cry, some will gnash, some will joke, some will mock, some will defend, some will be hopelessly devoid of nuance.

It doesn't matter because it's playing right into the hands of the ruling class. There is zero fucking difference between all of this, no matter where you're from, not functionally.

No matter which people from where at the time are spouting whichever opinion, it doesn't matter.

[-] prole 1 points 6 days ago

Whoa dude, deep.

Now how about you shut the fuck up and become an adult with the rest of us.

50+% of the US is not innocent, so fuck off

edit: sorry, 50+% of eligible voters. not of the whole population

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Yes you are right, because:

  • Everyone votes
  • No matter what, justifying disgusting hatred against the trump opponents who just lost their job is completely defensible and totally not a piece of shit move.

I probably will "fuck off" soon. Have your echo chamber of mentally distraught hatred and justify it all you want

[-] prole 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

All of these people think that their country is immune.

They're not dumb, and they don't vote the wrong way, so that means this can never happen to them.

Welcome to life as an American in 2015. Good luck.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

You shouldn't spoil their good time. They're just giddy that some people just started their track to homelessness. I mean literally, how would they NOT deserve it? They saw some American dickhead on the Internet laugh at them or something? This justifies it all. These great model Canadians know that they are far superior. Precisely because they were born in Canada.
