Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Someone has to write these drivers you speak of. Preferentially the hw vendor.
Just did a quick search and yeah apparently there aren't really xbox controller drivers included in the kernel from what i can tell. I assumed it would just work cause it has been the case for all the controllers i tried, but i have never even owned an xbox controller so i never tested that. I figured such a popular controller surely would work ootb, but i guess not.
My XBone controller works perfectly fine with my Linux PC. No tinkering required. BT sees it and connects right away.
Oh, well in that case idk anymore lol, but that sounds good
Could be a distro thing. I'm on Bazzite which is gaming focused so it wouldn't surprise me if they had built in drivers for XBox controllers or something
Ah, yeah that might be it. Makes sense that a gaming distro like that would want to make sure xbox controllers work.
