I'm not as anti-AI as the rest of this place but I am 100% in favor of being honest about it.

I found a mod passing off AI generated images as authentic, vintage sci-fi covers. I asked why they were mixing them together and was not only banned but they deleted my comment.

How about you don't go to instances where AI is allowed to complain about AI?

These are the rules of the sub:

The future was yesterday.

Rule 1: No serial downvoting or trolling just because you don’t like AI.

Rule 2: AI is fine. If it looks cool, it is cool, babe!

Rule 3: Be civil.

Rule 4: Do not call content “slop,” or use similar insults, unless you also contribute content yourself.

If you don’t like these rules, I suggest you create you own community with your own rules. Lemmy can always use more content!

If you can't stand it, then I'd suggest you read the last line.

This community really likes to police other instances, doesn't it?

Doesn't matter if AI is allowed. This is about being dishonest and passing off AI as real authentic vintage art and then banning the person bringing attention to it.

If it was allowed and the mod wasn't trying to hide it they wouldn't have banned the account or deleted the comment.

They aren't passing off shit as authentic vintage art.

They saw a cool image that fits the community and posted it. Nowhere in the community does it say AI isn't allowed nor that it needs to be labeled.

They banned the account because some rando went mental about something nobody in that community cares about. They aren't trying to hide anything. Stop making shit up.

If they weren't paying it off as vintage art then the question wouldn't be offensive. The ban and deletion of the comment specifically suggests that they don't want others to know that the art they are posting is AI.

Otherwise there's literally no reason to ban someone for asking questions.

I'm not making anything up. That's literally the facts of the situation as they were presented.

And you're trying to defend them so hard I have to assume you are one of their alts.

Edit: Using this persons comment as a way to highlight the rules of the sub would have been a better use of the time of both the mod and the rest of the subs users.

Also, how do you know they 'found some cool art' rather than having generated it themselves?

I didn't complain. I didn't call it slop. I asked a question. I'm not anti-AI, I just want it properly labeled so people know what they're looking at. Passing off AI generated covers alongside real covers and not distinguishing is just plain dishonest. Claiming to have found them on an old hard drive is a brazen lie.

Nowhere in the rules of the community does it say it needs to be labeled.

That you require that is completely on you. It isn't a lie. No matter how much you would like that.

Just by reading the rules it is obvious that community would have a ton of AI vintage images.

It is like going to an animal picture community and complaining why the bear pictures aren't labeled because you have a fear of them. Even though in the rules it clearly states bear pictures are allowed and don't need to be labeled.

It is kind of selfish.

As much as anything, he lies in the comments saying it's not AI, which is just dumb.

Where do they say it is not AI?

They say they don't care if it is AI or not. Like plenty in that community.

No. It’s from a folder of old pulp covers that I found on an old hard drive. I use to be obsessed with pulp mags from the 60’s. And kinda still am, I guess haha
