Til. Lol, I fucking live here and I always just assumed it was part of Appalachia cause of the way I've read about it described. Thanks for educating me.
Edit to add a panoramic photo I took of the scenery today.
You're more right than most people realize. The Ouachita and Appalachian mountains were once part of the same mountain range, along with the Scottish Highlands iirc. You're definitely right about that being a very old fossil if it is a fossil and if you found it in the Oachitas.

Yessir! I don't get up it much, but had some family visiting so I was taking them to all the tourist spots.
Nice view. Almost looks like the bridge at Grandfather Mountain.
It's all part of the Canadian shield in the end. I've heard the Ouachitas are connected to the Appalachians as well, all ancient rock.
