It could be worse. He could have battered and deep-fried the sushi before dipping it in Ranch.
Well, they say two wrongs don't make a right, but you might be onto something here.
I had exactly this. Deep fried sushi. At a place in Ukraine. It was soooo good.
Deep fried California rolls are quite common in Vancouver as well.
Various other deep-fried rolls show up as well, usually with the moniker crazy or crunch before added to some other roll
YOU try living in the shithole Midwest and see how long you go without looking at a candy bar and wishing it was covered in batter and fried.

You joke, but there are indeed tempura fried rolls and they are in fact delicious. I personally think then having ranch dip is quite a step too far.
A tempura fried shrimp roll with a good ranch would go so hard
I had exactly that, but with soy sauce and a hefty amount of wasabi. It was excellent. I don't like ranch at all, so that part wouldn't appeal to me.
I had a sushi burrito once, it was pretty good.
