Personally I wouldn't buy it for "750", because 750 in the US means more like 1000 in the EU. Now, if it was 750 in the EU - fantastic.

[-] claymore@pawb.social 33 points 1 day ago

What? In the US it currently costs 1049$, in the EU 1039€. If it was 750$ it would also be around the same price in Euro

In EU taxes are included while in the US they're not. Or something, I don't know I'm from the EU.

Well, my bad for generalizing. Looks like prices are different in various EU countries.

In my country the cheapest model is about $1200 USD (vs $1049 USD), while the most expensive one is over $1600 USD (vs $1349 USD). Absolutely ridiculous prices, but I'm glad to hear some countries have slightly better ones.

EU tends to include taxes in the sticker price, the US doesn't.

Sounds like a scam. So the 1350 is in reality closer to the 1600 from my country?

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Closer to like 1450 here. We tend to have about 7-10% sales tax

Isn't the EU price pre-vat?

VAT is 21% at least in romania. That would knock it up to about $1210. It's a ridiculous price for what it is.

I love steam but that thing just isn't my cup of tea.

Edit: I got lost in the currency conversions.

[-] kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 day ago

nah, prices in the eu must always include vat

[-] markz@suppo.fi 11 points 1 day ago

Everything here always includes vat, including steam

[-] claymore@pawb.social 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Not for me it isn't, at least when I tried to check out the Steam Deck 512 the price stayed at 779€, so for the machine it should be the same. I agree the price is way too high, plus I have 22% VAT so it would be even worse for me lol deck

I probably wouldn't buy it for more than $400 tbh.

And I say that as someone that can't afford to exist, so I really wouldn't ever buy it.

My limit for a console is $500. That's why the Switch 2 will probably be the last one I buy for a very long time.
