The author seems to forget that a good portion of Israeli citizens approve of the wars. For all the killing and reputation destruction Netanyahu is doing, the US would rather go down with a terrorist state that is 100% its ally (or "ally", given the recent findings on israeli spyware on USA troop equipment) than leave it to fend for itself, because look how close it is to all that juicy oil!!!

Oh, sure, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and some other nearby countries have finally acknowledged Israel's "right to exist" or something, but only after years of USA diplomacy and plenty of ~~bribery~~ negotiations. The moment USA says "you're on your own" to Israel, it won't take a year for it to be attacked by its neighbors.
