I feel like Wesley must be a bit like Arthur Dent, he's just got some of the worst luck in the universe, and people are dismissive of him because of it.

He gets to be an acting ensign and fly the ship, a posting people would kill for. And then he gets field promoted to a literal ensign and fly the ship for reals...
