You keep intentionally conflating library with school library interchangably as though they are the same thing. It's so slimy and you do it everytime.

me: "I don't think kids should be able to buy wine, but if their parents let them drink at home, that's their decision"

you: "OMG you think kids shouldn't be allowed to be allowed to drink!!! you want them to die of dehydration1!111"

me: drinking and drinking alcohol are not the same, and they can drink alcohol, but only if their parents allow it.....

you: RAAAAAA kids should be able to drink whatever they want!!!!! you want to kill kids!!!!

I don't actually. I realize those are school libraries. I just don't care. Those are not private schools, parents can still have oversight of what their kids are reading. The fact that this is in school doesn't change anything.

You're the one swearing and screaming. Everyone else is very calm.

Honestly, I think most of ya'll are just bandwagoning. I think most of ya'll are just cowards following the arrow to inform your opinions instead of thinking critically about what is being written. You made up your decision about how to respond not on what I've said, but on the direction of the arrow.

Nah, we're totally just disagreeing with your fringe views. You're screaming at people that they want to show porn to kids. We're just saying it's up to the parents to decide what's porn and what's not. No one is saying that kids have to or even should read those books. We just say parents should be able to decide, not you.

so, you haven't read anything I've said. Just say that, man.

I literally have said that parent should decide. Almost everytime. Parents should decide, kids shoudn't be able to just freely obtain those books. Those books don't belong in a school library for kids. They can be in the regular library where parents can decide and allow what is apporpriate for their kid. I have never said "I decide what kids read", I said "the public decides what kids can read in school, and parents decide what kids can read at home"

I don't know how many more times you need to read this until you understand. Like I said, I think you are just being willfully obtuse because you saw the arrow, turned off your brain and decided to be contrarian.

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 3 days ago

Except that's not what you said. You accused people of wanting to show porn to kids and said that those books should be banned from school libraries. Not that they should be accessible only with parental permission. That's two different things. If you would say "I think it's fine for those books to be in the library but there should be a special section for books that require permission from parents" most people would agree with you.

“the public decides what kids can read in school, and parents decide what kids can read at home”

Yeah, the public doesn't decide what kids can read in school. The public decides what is mandatory reading in school, parents decide what their kids can read in their spare time or in the library. If I give my kid a book to read in the bus or during lunch time you can't say he can't read it just because you don't like it. You keep proposing censorship but somehow are unable to recognize this.

I swear you're just being willfully pedantic.....

Obviously I mean the public decides what books the school has for kids to read... not that you can't give your kid a book and then they read it at school. Because that's you, as a parent, making a decision about what your kid can read, which is what I've been saying. You just wanted to twist it like you're doing now, for whatever reason. I don't know, maybe you lack excitement in your life.

Oh, so the books are fine and it's everyone who opposes the ban doesn't want to give porn to kids? Great, we finally agreed.
