This is a really stupid question, but did the man and his daughter pose like that for hours?
People didn't always have to pose for a long time. A common technique would be to do a quick sketch or series of sketches and then doing the final painting without the subject.
It is quite easy to fill in the details from a smartphone photo after all.
Just have AI do it

I would guess that they posed in a normal upright position. The artist could have turned the canvas a little.
