Not a huge loss as they pretty neatly tied the story back into The Boys. For those that didn't click through, the showrunners have noted that some of those character's stories will still be explored:

“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” said VCU executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg. “You’ll see them again.”

I kinda disliked the forcing of the characters back into Godolkin University in S2. It felt strange as the characters seemed to have developed well past that university storytelling device. If they were to announce a Season 3 and did the same thing of bringing them all back to GodU then it could absolutely risk existing just to beat the money horse and sour fan's enjoyment of the series.
