8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. MODERATORS
The latest Moody's Talks Inside Economics episode covers the jobs numbers well and talks about some of thr concerning figures that undermine the headline job growth. Of note: total hours are down and labor force participation are down despite job openings increasing.
This. Unemployment rate went down because half a million people quit looking for work. That speaks volumes.
I’ve always been curious about this… How does this work on a personal level? Like sure, maybe some homes were able to downsize to a single income. Maybe some were pushed to retire instead of working an extra five years. But that can’t account for all of them…
Do some just resign themselves to being homeless and destitute? Like if you’re not working, what are you doing to meet the (rapidly rising) costs of living? Are you just… Not living?
At this point I think folks are falling back on familial and clan structures. Finding a job in my area has been hell since COVID, and if I hadnt already been living with my grandmother I would have ended up doing so regardless.
Outside of that yeah it's probably homelessness in various forms, mind you someone with a hunting license living out of a camper van in Idaho looks quite a bit different from a drug addict in say Highland California.
