I know someone that did it once and having to have one of these as a result. Suggest you reset your opinions a bit.

[-] HertzDentalBar 19 points 5 months ago

Nope, shouldn't of done it once. Pretty easy to not drink and drive.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

I too have never had a time sensitive emergency

[-] _g_be@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

What kind of emergency is more important than the lives of people that might be killed by a drunk driver's mistake? And how is it impossible to find an alternative solution?

[-] aesthelete@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Where do you guys live? Is it America? Because I kinda feel like in America I'm never surprised that someone drove drunk.

(Especially before Uber.)

[-] kuhli@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 months ago

What emergency is so time sensitive it's worth killing yourself and a random family for?

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

The fact that you can't actually think of an emergency is telling.

[-] kuhli@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 months ago

Still didn't name an emergency worth killing yourself and a random family over

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

honestly, any emergency that involves hitting you and yours. that's because i don't feel like remembering them. i've been the car that the police pulls over because it's driving erratically and then takes over driving. it's an abstract concept to you. not to me.

[-] kuhli@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago

Were you drunk or just driving erratically because you were in an emergency?

Also, still didn't name an emergency worth killing yourself and a random family over

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Also, still didn’t name an emergency worth killing yourself and a random family over

because i don't have to tell you about the worst times in my life for your entertainment. read the room you creep

[-] kuhli@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 months ago

I'm not asking for you to talk about your life, I'm asking you to come up with literally any imaginary event that supports your argument that it's okay to drunk drive under the right circimstamces

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

wait really you harass someone with ptsd until they blow up, then complain to the mods over it and delete your comment starting the argument? you are quite possibly the biggest pussy on the internet.

let me be EXTRAORDINARILY CLEAR. you treat me like my life is worthless, why should i take any action to preserve yours.

[-] kuhli@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

lmao wtf are you on about? What mods? I deleted a comment immediately after posting, it got zero votes and you never even had a chance to reply to it. I don't even remember what it said.

I said people don't have a right to endanger others, the fact you took that as treating you like your life is worthless says a lot

“I know someone who only did a murder once and they locked them right up. Suggest you reset your opinions a bit.”

Replace murder with any crime.

If you don’t want to face the consequences, don’t do the action that begets the consequences.

TLDR: don’t fuck around if you don’t wanna find out.

[-] plz1@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

Nice straw man. Murder != drunk driving.

[-] quiltstimuli@feddit.uk 6 points 4 months ago

Killing someone with your car = murder Fuck drink drivers!

[-] cactusupyourbutt@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

sure its not the same, but it gets really close, really fast

[-] mech@feddit.org 7 points 4 months ago

Fun fact: In the US you can get a DUI for sleeping it off in your car, a passenger drinking while you drive (open container laws), or failing a bullshit coordination test graded by a racist cop without them ever checking your blood alcohol.

[-] MIDItheKID@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I am fully against drinking and driving, but there is definitely some bullshit out there like getting locked up for sleeping it off in your car. I've read plenty of stories about people getting arrested for merely approaching their car while drunk, and that shit gets me paranoid. I live in a place where I park on a busy street, and there have been times that I am having some drinks at home and I'm like "shit I gotta go get this thing from my car". The fact that I can get arrested while going to get my backpack or whatever from my car because I have keys in my pocket and therefore have "intent to operate a vehicle under in influence" doesn't sit well with me. Go find actual drunk drivers. I swear half the shit cops do is making up crimes because they can't meet their quotas.

[-] TwilitSky@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Also a fun fact: you could also just not drink and drive or allow others to drink in your car.

[-] mech@feddit.org 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Do you think it's justified to ban someone from driving for letting other people drink in the car?
If so, why? What good would that achieve?

[-] kuhli@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 5 months ago

Having a breathalyzer is letting them off easy, they deserve to lose their license

[-] plz1@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

They lost their license for 2 years. The equipment was required to get it back.

[-] kuhli@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Okay, seems reasonable, why should I reset my opinion?

[-] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

You mean he got caught once.
