Ahh yes, how dare a community run and funded project have community accountability.

The project has several ways of being community funded.

[-] Monstrosity@lemmy.today 9 points 2 weeks ago

Accountability for what!? You people have lost your minds.

[-] wholookshere@piefed.blahaj.zone 44 points 2 weeks ago

Ah yes, if anyone is against AI, because of its problems, then we've all lost our minds.

[-] Agrivar@lemmy.world 28 points 2 weeks ago

Are YOU the dev in question, or do you just have an unreasonably huge boner for AI?

[-] Monstrosity@lemmy.today 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I happen to agree w the developer that peoples' problem w AI is actually a problem w Capitalism

[-] wholookshere@piefed.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 weeks ago

the solution isn't to lie down in defeat. its boycott.

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

You sound even more like the dev in question. To quote an excerpt from his post:

There are massive issues with AI tech, but those are caused by our current capitalist culture, not the tools themselves. In many ways, it couldn't have been implemented in a worse way but it was AI that bought all the RAM, it was OpenAI. It was not AI that stole copyrighted content, it was Facebook. It wasn't AI that laid off thousands of employees, it's deluded executives who don't understand that this tool is an augmentation, not a replacement for humans.

Well, you are making up head cannon. Check my profile, there's a Pixelfed link. I'm an artist not an engineer.

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'm just telling you what you sound like. I checked your profile, gotta love the ~~number of~~ submission~~s~~ that have characters that have one too many fingers. You are about as much as an artist as me walking down the street and paying an actual street artist to tell him what he should draw, except you aren't even paying a struggling street artist...? (well, you know if you are or aren't, anyway)

[-] BennyTheExplorer@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Look, as annoying as this guy is, I am pretty sure he drew these himself. I think I am usually pretty good at spotting AI and his profile doesn't raise any flags for me. Of course I could be wrong, but just by the fact that these are often photographed pieces of paper makes me think it's real.

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Maybe you are right, it really was only one submission I found suspect, and it could be due to style, but AI is also increasingly difficult to discern. The paper says nothing, that's just a border style:

Regardless, I'm still just describing what he sounds like, and sounding like that is what made me suspicious enough to try to check his other claims. Not sure why someone who is an artist would try to defend hiding AI usage, given they are being much more targeted and affected by generative AI.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter, he knows if he drew it or not and my deeply nested comment will be lost to time, but I would be sus of not just him, but any "artist" that sounds like they are excessively defending generative AI use. Edited my original comment somewhat tho.

Omg this shit is ludicrous. Are you baby brained?

I don't use pencils to draft my work (penciling). I do this intentionally b/c I am a trained printmaker & back in the day (think sixteenth century) when making intaglio prints (that means on copper plates), there was no way to erase so they etched balls-to -the-wall style, mistakes & all.

I spent a long time learning to create line art w/o using pencil b/c I wanted to create that same weird, not-quite-right look that intaglio prints have.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering explaining myself b/c I am not in the habit of doing so but, goddamn, get a fucking hobby then maybe you won't feel so threatened by AI.

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Honestly, I don't care, it looks like shit to me (to each his own). I was just telling you what your argument sounded like, and showing how much more sus I am of artists who defend AI. Lots of words, but you've just joined the ranks of the people selling themselves as artists who are just selling printed AI slop. You'll be the one to know for sure, but I don't know what else to say, you are the one who unnecessarily brought it into the reply chain so you could throw shade on yourself ... Goo goo, gaga?

[-] Monstrosity@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, baby brained shit. Good luck, you're going to need it.

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

I Have No Big Brain And I Must Printmake 😥

[-] Monstrosity@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

Ofc I did these people are rabid weirdos, it's alright.

[-] Monstrosity@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

HA! Are you accusing my work of being AI? That's fucking hilarious

[-] Agrivar@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

So, you're a simpleton. Noted.

[-] texture@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

thats not nice. also, capitalism is the problem.

[-] Agrivar@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Capitalism is A problem, and a big one, but "AI" has a slew of problems unique to it. Furthermore, I didn't come here to be nice.

[-] texture@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

well, maybe you should be nice.

[-] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Try actually having open communication. Your as much as fault as that guy.

Your clearly here with a made up mind and no room for discussion or nuance. Thus you don't deserve anyone's kindness.

That guy is just here to be an asshole.

You basically have a sign on your head saying "be an asshole to me or don't talk to me".

When the only room for discussion is hostile don't be surprised when you get the assholes talking to you.

[-] texture@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

deserve is an ugly word
