Google is cramming Gemini AI chat into YouTube on smart TVs when nobody asked for it

I wonder how many that will impact though. Are there really a large group of people that use the OS on their smart tv over and device connected to it? It's been years now but all I remember is TV brands choosing not to update their apps, bricking the channels after only a little bit of time. I figured by now, most everyone is displaying Youtube on their tv from another device that can block ads and anti-feature.

Believe it or not, I still use it on Roku. When this TV dies I’m definitely getting a dumb TV and hooking up an HTPC or something, but for now the YouTube app on Roku works fine for the times we need it.

Edit: looks like it’s just adding an ‘ask’ button so sounds simple enough to ignore like all the other crap they shove in there.

None of my non-programmer friends use anything like that. They use the smart tv or their console to play videos.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
