Sub in the other capitalists. That'll fix it.

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 2 weeks ago

Doing nothing, that always works.

Educating yourself on the atrocities commited by both the Democrats and Republicans would have you not so excited about a "blue wave." They're just the other right wingers.

You will not be saved by a ruling class bootlicker.

Your ignorance is only surpassed by your indifference to human suffering. Your opinion means nothing to me.

[-] pucker4676@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago

The status quo will get the job done. Do the same and hope for a different result. Best of luck.

The status quo in america is white supremecy. Pick any direction that leads away from that and you can say you have a conscious.

[-] Zetta@mander.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago

You're completely right, but it is still better than the current option by most measures for sane people.

[-] pucker4676@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

It's better for the locals, I suppose. Back to slowly boiling the working class, but equally terrible for the rest of the world. Especially the global south.

There is a left wing in the democratic party - it is possible to get organized and help it win over the conservative wing.

[-] pucker4676@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

Which Democrats do not support capitalism? There's no such thing as a capitalism supporting left wing. Bernie is probably the closest thing, though not a Democrat, and even he is pro-capitalism.

So wanting back to the post-war consensus is centrism in your book?

[-] pucker4676@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

When has the US been post war? Edit: I understand what you're sayimg now. And you're looking for ethical capitalism, which is a weird thing to say. In other words, ethical-exploitation. Doesn't seem like a real thing, yeah?

The only reason FDR caved as much as he did is because the US had a strong communist presence. They've fixed that. Your longing for the past is akin to conservatism, no?

[-] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago

Finally someone who gets that the New Deal was nothing more than a concession to keep the people appeased while the rest of the state apparatus systematically dismantled the "communist threat" and the very foundations that allowed the growing unrest to manifest into effect resistance over the decades to come.

[-] ChristerMLB@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

I'll take that as a yes. Fair enough.

[-] ChristerMLB@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

alright, I'll give you a better answer.

I wouldn't say I'm looking to make capitalism ethical, as much as I'm looking to make it harmless. The big problem is the high and increasing inequality, that eventually makes free societies impossible.

As for FDR: whatever. I neither engage in, nor approve of, political hero-worship. His legacy is complex, including maybe even the image of the führer-president that Trump is exploiting right now.

[-] pucker4676@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

You're witnessing capitalism run it's course. There will never be a such thing as harmless capitalism. Capitalism cannot exist without exploitation. The ruling class has perfected slavery via consumerism. You don't live in a free society, and it's going to get worse.

[-] ChristerMLB@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

It is going to get worse, but it is inequality that is at the center of the problem. Inequality will be a problem regardless of what our mode of production is.

[-] pucker4676@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Some easy reading will open your eyes to what's going on around you. A book that's often recommended is Black Shirts and Reds by Michael Parenti. Some of the views regarding China are pretty outdated, and even he fell for some of the western propaganda, but it gives you a much clearer picture of what actually goes on in the world in regards to western imperialism.

Inequality is a feature of Capitalism. It certainly doesn't have to be this way. The ruling class wants us divided.
